Do You Clean Your Spare Ball?
« on: October 04, 2003, 10:39:01 PM »
Since we use plastic spare balls which do not absorb oil, why bother to clean the things? Just to make 'em look pretty? Huh?

I user a pearl urethane for a spare ball as well.

I don't wipe it after every shot, but I do give it a quick spray of cleaner at the end of the night to avoid the "slimy hammer" syndrome.

Pick up any old urethane sitting on the rack at your local alley. That slimy feeling sucks.

My pearl Urethane doubles as my dry lane ball, so yes, I clean it just the same as I do my other equip.  It only takes 10 seconds, and the cleaner and rag are already out, so it's not really any hassle.  Not to mention, the less oil on the ball, the less chance you get some on your bowling hand and into the finger holes!

because plastic causes carrydown.
because when dirty it can easily hook away from a spare.
because you're not a slob (if you don't clean your spare ball, why clean any ball?).

I wipe my plastic ball off often because it seems if I let oil stay on the ball it has trouble coming back in the ball return.

Good point TravisG - oil can cause havoc in ball returns - especially if you're in a house that maybe doesn't take quite as good care in their cleaning/maintenance programs.
