I went to the chiropractor after a car accident that left my neck and upper back in a knotted state. After a few adjustments, I felt better than I did during the 5 months of "traditional" care I had received prior. My traditional care regimen included upper body massage, physical therapy (exercises), and ultrasound massage. It wasn't until the chiropractor put the misaligned vertebrae back into place that the pain was eliminated at its source.
Muscle pain can result from pinched or compressed nerves due to a subluxation (misalignment). Depending on where the compression is occurring, there might be other physiological issues occurring that you don't necessarily attribute to the back pain - digestive issues, organ function, etc.
Traditional medicine has a fatal flaw in that treatment of the symptoms takes precedence over treating the cause. It's like trying to stop a forest fire without stopping the kid who is lighting the matches.
