What ball is your "ol' reliable" ?
« on: July 29, 2008, 02:48:50 AM »
What ball is your ball you can rely on... the one you can pull out of your bag and know it WILL work?

I want you to write:
Ballname
Coverstock type (Solid?Pearl? Particle? Hybrid?)
Coretype (sym/asym?)

Layout (smooth? Strong? Aggressive? Mild? controllable? just common words...)

your style

Thanks

two or three sentence why you've chosen this ball and what you like about it

ME:

Track Machine
Particle Pearl
Asym
Layout: strong

Style:
Stroker; 13-15mph; med revs

The Machine is versatile and with its particle blends the o/u and is smooth on the midlane with some nice but controllable pop on the backend.from drier med to oilier med this ball works and gives a sh1t about carrydown

Gamebreaker
solid (but polished)
Layed out- strong

Style:
mid-roller, about 15-18 mph depending on shot.

I use this ball because it is very forgiving and i can swing it on the middle to drier shots and play straight up on the heavier shots while still carrying either way,

Storm Power Charge
Pearl
Symmetrical
Smooth/controllable

Stroker - 14-15 mph

This ball can do whatever I ask it to do down and in, small swing, even in heavier oil this ball will make it to the pocket.  It also pretty much ignores carrydown and gives me a true roll every time I throw it.  It has over 1000 games on it, and still performs with consistency.

Columbia Ti-Boss II

When my game is struggling, I pull this ball out, and it always gets me out of any slump I am in.  I can always find a line somewhere on the lane with this ball.  Best Columbia ball ever made, hands down.

Ebonite Bash
Polished Solid
Symmetric

Strong and controllable pin under. On Heavy stuff I move outside and play down and in (slightly angled in if really heavy). On lighter stuff just change hand position and its smooooove bellying it out a little.

I'm a tweener with lower speed+low track.

AMF Changeling...sadly there isn't much else I can say about this ball....those of you who know what a changeling is, it was like a bonanza, or a test ball.  It might have been a mass produced coverstock, or it might be one of very few, and the core is the same way...Who knows.  Drilled rico and is always with me to save my butt when I am in trouble.

Phenom- pin under ring mass bias on val. The surface gets a touch up with a green pad from time to time. Its prob not as strong as it was when new, its great for playing up an oil line when pearl balls arent working because of sloppy backends.

Its successor is my rico drilled Power Drive- smooth on nearly everything

Storm Forest Fire
Solid reactive
Light bulb core

Layout is leveraged, lots of hook and lots of flare.

I am a cranker about 18 mph.

This has been my go to ball for nearly 10 years now! It has always been super controllable and doesn't really care much about what the oil looks like, it just does it's thing. Having a ball for so long and never having to redrill it, you just know what to expect before you pick it up.

Power Machine
Pearl
Asymmetric

Long with semi-strong reaction

Cranker

This is likely the only ball I have that I can consistently play in or out with.  The over/under is virtually non-existant.  When my K.E. was chewing through the lane two weeks ago, I stepped down to my PM and played the same line.  Shot 300 the next game.

D/T Vendetta Particle Pearl

5 x 4, pin under ring finger

There are few conditions I can't get this beastie to the pocket on(extreme dry or oil), and the pin carry is phenomenal. And if it's the wrong ball, it's obvious very quickly. What more could you ask for?
