Does particle pearl always egual medium?
« on: April 13, 2007, 04:20:18 AM »
Most of the reviews that I have read lately say that particle pearl is mostly for medium. I was thinking of purchasing one to bride the gap between a hammer pain and my solid particle AMF terminal velocity. I would want it to be more of a control piece on heavier oil than my pain can handle. Is it worth it, or should I just get another pain and drill it differently or another strong solid reactive? The particle pearls that I was thinking of are, the Roto Mystic, Storm Shift, or a pyro. Any opinions?
Thanks

Most are for medium-light to medium-heavy.  Heavier than that and you're really looking at a solid particle, lighter and you're looking at a pearl resin.  I'd say that the Shift and Mystic (and the Mystic's predecessor, the RS-P) are for the heavier side of medium, especially with the shine knocked off.

I have a Razor Blade. This thing can handle some oil. I wouldn't say flood, but it can handle some oil.

I think it really depends on a) the type of core and b) the ammount of particles used.

I've seen the pyro handle some oil as well.

I don't know if you are going to find a particle pearl that will handle more oil than your pain. Something like a smash time solid(not pearl) might be closer to what you need, or a Double Agent(pearl particle).

Mystic comes polished...if you knock the shine off, maybe take it down to 1000 abralon, trust me, it will hook.  The cover/core combo is quite strong.

Definately not a medium oil ball....LaneMasters/Legends Black Pearl. OOB it has a shine and is too strong for true medium patterns.

I would say, OOB finish, Particle Pearls are for medium light to medium heavy> If you take some of the polish off and knock them down in abralon finish, then you can use them on heavy oil. But that's not what they are made for, and there are particle solids that are made for that type of condition. For what you want, the Mystic is a great, great choice. It is stronger than you think it would be and works well on medium/heavy conditions, and if you take the polish off of it, it will handle heavier volumns of oil. However, why not get a Horizon Solid instead? It's at 800 matte surface and can be polished easily as well.

Thanks for the comments guys. I have two pains and the pins on them are above the fingers in differant positions. I don't want to redrill either one, so I thought that I would get another ball. Always looking to try something new. So I'll get a mystic and drill it with a low pin and maybe knock of the polish. It should be a good tournament piece. Anymore comments? Keep em coming. Thanks.

Fyi.., from my experience and from what I've read, as well. The Shift is a medium oil ball and is best suited for medium and medium-light. Anything heavier surface adjustments are needed - and it will also be a temporary solution.

Medium on newer synthetics is not medium on wood lanes, i consider most particle pearls to be in medium area's on the sythetics i bowl on.

The mystic i have pin low and box finish it is true medium oil ball out this way, i personally think the oracle vision would be a better choice for more oil.
