Christmas Present
« on: December 16, 2009, 09:43:26 AM »
I was thinking of getting my father in-law a new ball for Christmas. Right now he is throwing the hammer sting with pin above bridge. He likes to play a straighter line with a nice backed move, but can execute a small swing when he needs to. sometimes he struggles with carrying 7's or 10's so i was thinking of something thats fairly angular? any suggestions on what would be a good compliment to the sting and will help caryy those corners? thanks.

If he likes Hammer, get him a Burn.  A little strong in the mids for my liking, but definitely angular.

Also, keep the Emerald VIBE in mind. Cleaner through the mids than the BURN, yet still angular on the backend.

Late and angular isn't going to help him kick the corner better.  Earlier with more roll will.  Consider a Jacked in the Hammer line(may have to smooth the finish).  Other good choices are the Furious, Nomad Solid, Wild Card..

Do you think a ball drilled for more roll, say pin below would be a good option?

Perhaps, what are his specs...(PM if you'd like).

Angularity can help carry, but it doesn't seem to do much for the older crowd but ping 10s all day, since most don't have the revs/speed needed to throw around messengers.

The Sting might actually be too dull and early rolling for him.  Even with the drill pattern.  So I would give another vote for the Burn.  It will give him something different and he might end up liking it better.  Mostly because it will conserve energy for the pins rather then spending it on the lane.  But the line he prefers to play is not really condusive to a big hook.  He probably likes that off the gutter and slight tilt into the pocket line.
