Friend of mine ran a Lane #1 Hybrid Dirty Bomb (a Brunswick PK17/PK18 hybrid, if I remember correctly) through his dishwasher this week in advance of me doing a resurface for him. Turned the ball almost light blue and gray (the ball is a navy blue/purple mix, ordinarily).

So he brings it to me, I do a cleaning and resurface on my spinner, taking it down to 360 Abralon (we're going to start there and move up to 500 if needed -- all his equipment is similarly-drilled polished solids so we're just trying to get him a different look without having to buy a new ball). Once I took it down that far (I started at 500 Abralon, then decided to go a step further), the color phasing disappeared.

I've never had a problem using my dishwasher, so maybe his gets the water too hot?

I used to get it on certain balls from using just a hot bucket of water.  Since I knew it would go away I didn't get too excited.

saw that happen to a guy with a No mercy Beat'n.   Instead of Black/Dark Blue it came out BRIGHT blue and Charcoal.   looked normal after a couple weeks of use.

If you saw the ball NIB it probably had that same "haze".  My old Scorchin Inferno did the same thing when I'd get the oil out of it.  The lastest ball I had that happen with was a Fury...both balls came oob with a slight haze that disappeared as soon as they saw some oil.

Thanks for the responses. He was pretty freaked out but I told him it would probably go away in time.

He bowled with the ball tonight, by the way, and loved the reaction.

Jess, tell your buddy not to worry about it. My HDB did the same thing. It'll go back to normal after a little bit. My Pro Purple went from a deep purple to a very light purple after I gave it a bath.

My Inferno phased out with some grayish color.  Came back after a few games

It can happen whenever water is used, but should go away.

I have an old original blue Faball, that the previous owner left in the back of a pickup over the summer and it faded to a seafoam green. Took me forever to figure it out as i was trying to search for specs on a green Faball and they never made one.
