What kind of polish do you use?
« on: March 14, 2004, 06:22:33 AM »
I'm going to buy some polish and was wondering what is the favorite around here.  I'll probably try some stuff in the Track Magic line... Clean N Sheen and something else.  Anyway tried this or anything else they'd recommend.

Kidjete--I use the Ebonite Grit Polishes.  They were available at innovativebowling.com, but that was along time ago.  I have used the Track Magic line and wasn't impressed at all.  I like the storm polish but it is pricy.  Good luck

If you, like me, do not own a spinner, it's hard to beat the Neo-Tac products.  I use Liquid Sandpaper, followed by one or two coats of Renew-It, to give a ball a nice shine, not a high-gloss finish.  The Neo-Tac stuff works great by hand.

seadrive, I've heard a few people on this site saying that the Re-New It "killed" their balls. I believe for one, Doug Sterner had that happen to a  Hammer and the Hammer people verified that the Re-New It killed it. I also heard the same thing about Storm....Have you or anyone else had this problem? I would like to know as I bought a bottle of this stuff, but after hearing these reports, I'm reluctant to use it.

I don't know why people say that Brick, as I've never experienced sudden ball death of any kind for any reason, including using Renew-It.  I doubt that anyone from Hammer "proved" that Renew-It was responsible for killing a Hammer ball.

I don't have any scientific evidence to support my opinion, but I've been using this stuff pretty much every week for about two years, and I have seen no ill-effects.

Oh, and although I don't own a Hammer ball, I have used Renew-It on balls made by AMF, Ebonite, Columbia, Lane #1, Brunswick and Storm.

Thanks seadrive. All of my balls are Lane 1, so if it has worked for you on Lane 1, then it should work for me. I do use a Spinner. Will this have any effect one way or the other?

One more question and that is I heard or read somewhere that when applying Hook-It to get the oil out of a ball, that on Pearl balls they say to apply Re-New It first and them apply Hook-It. Do you know anything about this?...lol...I have a bottle of Hook-It that I too haven't used yet.

The spinner may give you a higher gloss with the same amount of product, that's probably about it.

If you read the label on the back of the Renew-It bottle, it says to apply Hook-It after Renew-It for extra "tac".  This applies to all coverstocks, not just pearls.

I rarely use Hook-It any more, as they cut back on the amount of oil they lay down in my local house, and all my stuff hooks too much now.  How this is possible with my no-rev release really baffles me!
