Pre-Shot drills
« on: January 03, 2004, 02:31:59 AM »
Just wondering what pre shot drills you guys have? Im going to start having a set drill that i repeat over and over, although i do tend to do roughly the same thing now.

My drill will be something as follows
Give right hand a little air from ball return fan
Pick ball up with left hand
Give ball a quick wipe
Move on to approach and position feet
Take hold of ball in my right hand
Take a couple of deep breaths,
And then bowl

Im hoping that by having a set drill i can take my shot comfortablly and without to much thought into score (a few weeks ago, shot the front 8, then spent to much time thinking about my score inbetween picking my ball up and setting off, 9th shot went very wide, missed brocklyn, but got lucky pin action, leaving a 3 pin, 10th frame my mind was still on the score and i fluffed it with a big split, finished on a 250 summin, even though i still had a strong line into the pocket)

Looking around in the scratch league i bowl in, others seem to have set drills, some blow into there thumb hole, others stand on approach bending knees lots before set off, so thought it would be interesting to see what drills other people have

I just found this out actually.  Some of my team members told me I do it and I never realized it.  I guess when I step onto the approach and get myself set, I wiggle my elbow back and forth about 3-4 times and then start going into the motions.

No, no.  But I do drag my right foot when I slide.  The toe on my shoe looks like chit.  lol

1.  Wipe ball with microfiber towel

2.  Get on approach, after being waved ahead by lady 4 lanes away (seriously)

3.  Line up feet, find target without EVER looking at pins (if there's stuff missing in the rack, my teammates yell).

4.  Set up in ball.

5.  Take a couple of deep breaths.

6.  Roll shot.

7.  Post at the line (my most important step)

8.  Stuff an 8 pin

9.  Make the spare with THE WHITE DOT!! ::grumble::

OK, I'll shut up now

1) Walk to approach
2) Check out the racks
3) Stop looking at the women and check out the pins
4) Decide which ball to throw
5) Find my line
6) Pick up the chosen one
7) Wipe off
8) Step on approach
9) Line feet up
10)Blow in thumb hole
11)Put fingers in
12)3..2..1..LIFT OFF!

good shooting by the way...front 8....the other thing I DON"T do is look at my scores.  I just bowl frame by frame or shot by shot, making sure I don't miss. a strike is bonus and a spare will win you the game most of the time.

I do tend to try not to pay attention to my scores, but found once id hit the eigth, my mind immediatly started thinking about the last four, especially as i had a very nice strong line into the pocket, then nerves set in, really i just choked.
