I have some CnD from the ebo brand that I had for long time. The bottle had become distorted over time - this never happened before.

Anyway, I used it last week and I most always wear gloves when working with chemicals. I put on my disposable mechanic (nitrile) gloves on and the CnD made contact with finger tips. The finger tips looked like it melted a bit. The tip of fingers were rough. It melted the rubber or just reacted to the rubber material, I don't know....

I stopped using it and finished the job with the Rx instead.... BTW, how do you get rid of your old chemicals, old polishes and cleaners?

Don't believe it "melts" the surface of the ball or it wouldn't be legal at all. It's water soluble so it can't be that vicious a material.

good point.. But usbc does say it changes the surface enough to not allow it during USBC sanctioned play.  Can only be used before or after.  I am not sure what their criteria is for this.  I know acetone or MEK  is not allowed at all but they do now allow denatured alcohol to be used anytime.. Acetone and MEK are possible ingredients added to Ethyl Alcohol to make it "denatured"..  So go figure.

I guess I don't know what is NOW added to ethyl alcohol to make it "denatured". I do know it used to be methyl alcohol, which is poisonous to human beings. That is why it was added: to insure human beings do not drink it. Winos still drink it.

I believe (not 100% positive) that there is now a slight amount of abrasive in Powerhouse's formulation of C&D. I suspect that is why it used to be approved DURING bowling and it is now approved for use only BEFORE or AFTER bowling.

In SoCal, different cities have hazardous waste processing sites that are open to the public once a month or so. Our heathen friends in NorCal have similar available services.  ;D
