I'm wondering what the forum's beliefs are on the best balls that are clean down the lane yet smooth at the breakpoint. Seems like there's a decent selection of different core number and coverstock type variations out there for this category. And then there's the newer resin-urethane blends that might be in play for the end result too although calling them clean might be a bit of a stretch. ;D
So let's hear it. The brand, price, or supposed strength of the ball is irrelevant. I've been chewing some things over and would appreciate some opinions.

Are any of the After Dark balls similar to the X?

Well, it's basically the same core shape, but higher rg to get it down the lane more, but the 2 inch pin mellows it out. It's the best way to stay in the track as much as possible for me.

Sounds like an IQ Emerald would also be a good fit here.

Hy-road/Hy-road X/ Hyroad Pearl???

The Orange Vibe fits clean & smooth to a "T"

Hustle Ink.
(edit: Smoothest weakest clean reactive I own is a Brunswick Slingshot but discontinued long ago but man is PK17 sweet and controllable).

Hustle Ink, especially if you use a control layout (2" pin to pap or so) and Covert Tank with any layout.
Mention both from first hand experience, Covert Tank is pretty interesting piece, clears heads pretty well and is soft when it makes it's move. Some day i'll have an uninterrupted practice session and get some video of it compared to some of my other equipment.

I also do agree with the above posts above on the ink (Despite recommendating the Hy-Roads). I do have a 2 inch pin ink, smooth as butter, surprisingly continuous as well (plus!!!).

i had an overseas marvel maxx gold. it had the nrg smooth pearl. i threw it and was waiting for a crazy nano pearl skid flip but it just rolled right in like a match pearl i had. they need to use that nano smooth on some stateside stuff, its got oil handling ability without the crazy backend on most higher end balls.

The smoothest ball to date that I've seen is that Hammer Purple pearl urethane piece!
My teammate has one and he's a cranker...but it's smooth as silk!
Of the new releases, I believe the grape Counter Attack solid is smooth as silk also!
