HOOTERS Scratch League
« on: August 24, 2009, 11:38:56 AM »
Country Club lanes in Sacramento is hosting the HOOTERS Classic Scratch this fall on Tuesday nights at 7:00pm.  $2500 donated by HOOTERs.  I understand a HOOTERS girl will be cocktail waitressing each week.  (I heard that information no proof).  4 person 850 cap.  For further information contact Country Club lanes or Greater Sacramento Area USBC.

I bowl in a scratch league now that has no cap it is fun we are one of the more competitive teams in the league though, the five us win our points more often than not. Some teams we bowled against last year were completely torched by us last year. I can see where bowlers would start saying why bother to bowl if we get crushed constantly.

That is why I have no issue with having a cap, I guess it doesnt make any difference if we have one or not, but if we do have one I understand the logic.

Like Steve said, if you don't have a cap, you will have a couple teams that just blow everyone else out of the water.  Then there'll be less teams/players.  Less teams means less prize money.

This summer a team steam rolled a league by going  50-10

5 person team.   Team total AVG - 1114

It was a handicap league.

exactly.  Now you will have your players that say just shoe up and bowl who shows up.  Why would someone want to participate in a league when they have no shot at beating certain teams? All you would do is watch the teams dwindle year after year, then you would complain about lack of teams.

Usually the ones that complain about a CAP on average are the ones that would be on a team that would exceed the cap.

I guess I look at like a salary cap in sports. It tries to level the playing field a little bit. But my question is when is the cap set?

The cap is a part of the league rules.  Normally the cap is set when the league is originally organized, then each year at the league meeting it can be changed by a majority vote of those present.  It should never be changed during a season.  The cap is based on entering averages.  If a bowler improves during the season, putting his team's current average total over the cap, the team is still OK for the rest of the season.   --  JohnP

850?  That sounds pretty low for Sac.

So, should I drive up from the East Bay to bowl?

Yep, just leave from work on Mon., take Tues off and you can hit two scratch leagues before driving back.
