I'm still relatively new to bowling still, started last summer. The ball I have been using is the storm reign of fire. When I went to the pro shop I told the guy I wanted s ball that would hook a lot. This ball has worked for me. My average is somewhere around 170-175. My question is how many games will a ball last before I should get it resurfaced or purchase a new one? I probably have over 300 games on my ROF. It seems to not be hooking as much but it could just be that I'm throwing the ball harder now. Would you guys recommend I get this ball resurfaced or should I buy a new ball? I start my first sanctioned league next week. I'm a stroker as opposed to a cranker. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

At 300 games a resurface is probably a good idea. An even better one would be to remove the oil from the ball. Modern balls are like sponges sucking up oil from the lane surface. Once they become oil logged, they don't hook like they did when new. Most pro shops have a machine that will do that for ~$20. Sometimes that have a package deal with a resurface/de-oiling. There are several good home remedies for removing oil from a bowling ball as well. If you're still a beginner, I'd leave the maintenance to the pros.

I agree that a resurfacing is important. That should be done every 50 games, 100 at the max because as Strider says your ball is probably full of grease.

On the other hand, it probably couldn't hurt to have a second ball in your bag to start off your season. Maybe something that is suited for dry lanes that you could also use for your spares? Dry lanes and spare shooting tend to be 2 big obstacles for new bowlers.

I'm actually pretty good at picking up my spares. A lot of people I know use a plastic ball for the ten pin. I'll admit I had a lot of trouble picking up the ten pin, but now I'm pretty good at it. I just stand to the left and throw it hard at it. I am still considering another ball, I was thinking of either the tropical heat or the victory road. I think that's what they are called.
