« on: October 01, 2005, 06:47:57 AM »
How long did it take for you (bowling seasons) to average 200 plus ?

What were your keys to getting your average 200 plus ?

thanks

I was able to average 200 as soon as I moved to a house with wood lanes and a really easy THS!!

Unlike everyone else, I'll say this straight up. It took me about 13 years of self-teaching to reach the level I'm at right now. Spare shooting is very, VERY important, but unless you get strikes, you'll never average 200 (do the math...I PROMISE you there is no way to get a 200 score without a strike).

I'm glad someone finally said this.  I throw a ton of clean games but have never averaged 200 because I don't throw enough strikes.

Lessons start Tuesday, I can't wait

I wonder how many people who actually answered these questions on reply REALLY ARE 200 average bowlers... It's not an easy thing to do and I'm definitely not there yet. I throw plenty of 200 games, but by no means do I average a 600 set in league quite yet. NOBODY on my league squad averages a 600 set... In fact, me and our team captain are the ONLY ones on the team to actually HAVE a 600 scratch set this league season. More power to those who actually are 200 avg bowlers... You have my respect for sure.

Some people say that Bowling is a lot like Golf.
It's fickle and precise, not to mention that the equipment is especially important.
I've been known to break golf clubs and throw them in lakes to take out my frustration...
Do you think I'd get in trouble if I chucked my X-Factor through the pro shop window?

Have you seen how easy some of the conditions are at houses these days? Stevie wonder could average 200 at a few houses in my area. It really is adult bumper bowling, its that easy to shoot over 200. If you don't average 225 at one place around here, you really are not even considered to be a decent bowler. Put these guys on sport shots and they won't average 170 (in fact, I know of a few bowlers who average 230 ths and 165 sport. shows how ridiculous the house shot is).

13 years of bowling (freshman year of college).

Keys to getting up to a 200+ average.

1) Making most of my spares.

2) Moving from plastic (which kept me in the mid 180's) to urethane (which put me over 200 for good).

3) Practicing spare shooting at least once every 2 weeks. Corner pins, buckets, everything I could get the chance to see in competition.

Took me growing up in term of years, in terms of body, and in terms of attitude. I started bowling when I was 8 and it took me until I was 18 to average 200. Now another 8 years later Im averaging numbers that if someone told me, I would think they were joking.

Spares are important and learning yourself and what you can do is important. For me though its all about taking advantage of what your area gives you. The shot in my area is very friendly---and yet each house has very distinct differences. I know going into each house what style and angles will and will not work---no matter what shot they put out. Why do I know all this?

Repetition---to me that is the biggest key. The more you bowl (whether practice or leagues) the better you become and the more you know. Especially if your competition is of a better caliber. Some people get beaten out of it---others thrive. I thrived. You learn more from better bowlers than you do from inferior bowlers. Now I learn more from inferior bowlers because they have more fun at all times than "serious bowlers".
