Coaching challenge

I made mention of this a couple of weeks ago but last night I got a close up look.

There is a bowler in my scratch league that has a style unlike anything I have ever seen before. He throws the ball in the same style you would see a lot of 4 and 5 year olds use. He puts his hand in the ball (a normal finger tip grip) and places it on his belt buckle holding it with both hands. He then runs to the foul line with no back swing (holding the ball in front of him) and pushes the ball forward with both hands. As he releases the ball he puts reverse hook spin on the ball (he is right handed). His ball speed isn’t very high (I would say 14 mph) since most of his speed has to come from his approach.

He plays the lanes as if he was left handed and hooks half the lane. Last night he was playing 15 at the arrows out to 5 and back.

He was averaging about 180 (after 12 games) going into the night but shot a little over 700 against us.

I understand he has averaged in the 210’s in the past and is trying out for the Wichita State Bowling team.

How do you coach that except help with lane play and mental toughness? I guess he doesn’t have a muscled arm swing, just no arm swing at all!

My son at 4 started bowling like the two hander at the US open.

He looked awesome.  At age 4 he shot a no bumper156!

He revved it up and could use a bunch heavier ball than with one hand.

He went to Yaba and some 160 average old babe told him she would not let him bowl like that.  He was beating most of the 8 and 9 year olds at 5!

He quit!

Great coaching!
