Coaching would it be useful?
« on: September 13, 2007, 02:10:39 AM »
Im having problems concerning my track and how high it has been as of lately (flaring out over the holes) and im considering coaching as i want to right the ship.

I've been in and around the sport since the late 80's, mainly averaging between 190 to 210.

Would a bronze level coach have enough of a knowledge base to help a stubborn been around indivual like myself?

Has your track moved altogether, or is it just a phenomenon on balls drilled pin under the fingers, flaring across the finger holes. If the latter si the case, you are doing everything right, just the finger holes are in no safe flare area. It is rather a drilling or ball setup problem.

If you clip both thumb and finger holes with your initial track, then you should IMHO consider a coach and some video taping, when you cannot move the track down by yourself.

It depends on the Bronze Level coach.  The USBC has the programs set up with the teaching of Level 1 & 2 focused more on the true beginner to about a 160 average - Bronze focused on the intermediate bowler 160 - 190 average, Silver for the advanced bolwer 190 and up, and Gold for the elite bowler - Pro, Team USA etc.

There are some Bronze Coaches who actually have the same knowedge and understanding as the Silver, but have not yet taken the certification.  I would talk with the coach and pick their brain to see if they are a true Bronze or a Bronze ready for Silver.  Silver is the better choice for your level of skill, according to the USBC Coaching Program.

Dizzy its the first you stated.  Its never been an issue for me, untill after a summer layover.  I can move it down slightly, but it is an uncomfortable hand position.  ( cupped wrist, fingers under at 7 position and thumb around 3)
I dont think it is equipment related, however im only throwing used at the moment.

Previously this would really lower my track now it might have a half inch difference.  I dont think im taking time off again!

Be very careful about picking and then trusting any coach.  They have to be
able to truly diagnose and then make the proper prescription.  Too many coaches
are able to see the symptoms but are not adequately trained to really see
the cause of the disease.  It is way too easy to get coaching certification.
A good coach can help you though.  Good luck.

The best way to find a coach is to ask around your local area for bowlers
who have been helped--then let the buyer beware.

As you can perceive, I am not very imprssed with the quality of bowling
coaches, per se.  Do your homework to try to get the best results.

I have not read any of the other posts, so I apologize if I repeat something that has already been said.

As far as coaching, it does help. But the big key is that you have to be open about your bowling and open to suggestions. If you are neither, then hiring a coach will not help you in any way.

But as far as it helping I will tell you the right coach will do wonders for a game. I averaged in the 190's in Maine and then moved to Florida where I averaged 179. After working with a coach over the summer, I am back in the 190's.

A good coach is hard to find. Call or email some, see what their style is. Some people do not like other people, that is the way it is. But once you find the right one, the sky is the limit.
