help please
« on: June 27, 2007, 08:59:15 AM »
I have found myself in quite a slump where I am sparaying the ball all over.  I am fairly positive my problems are in my aproach and timing.  I live in Michigan south of Detroit I was wondering if anyone knew any local coaches that would be very good coaches.  I don't want to put money into a coach that isn't gonna be able to help fix my problems. Also I was wondering what everyones opinion on sliding vs. planting is? I always slid before and when I bought a pair of Dexters I stopped sliding because I couldnt find anything that felt right. I would either stick to much or slide too much so I started to plant instead and I feel like my game has gotten less consistent and was wondering if anyone thaught this was likely part of my problems.

As far as "planting" I think you answered your own question.
You said you feel less consistent since you started planting.
That shows its the wrong thing to do, Its throwing off everything.

Just what was wrong with the dexters you got? did you get ones with changable soles? You might try a different brand or even the slide sock.

I think if you get your shoes right first and start sliding again it should help
with your approach and timing problems.

"planting" will cause severe timing and targeting issues.  Not to mention the physical problems that can develop in your knees.

Get the shoes right and everything else will return to normal.

Bowler's Slide Sock.  Try it, it will be the best $15 or so you've ever spent.  --  JohnP

I tried a pair of Dexter SST 6 LX's.  I could never find the right combination of soles and heels for the amount of slide I wanted.  I bought another pair of Dynorooz.  I had the ABS shoes before and really liked them, but ABS was no longer PBA registered and I wanted to try a couple of regionals.

I have Dexter SST's and I just could never find a right combination before that I just had a basic pair of Dexters that had the basic white pad on the whole bottom and had no problems but when i switched I never found any combo I liked with the interchangeable souls.  My knee has been hurting lately too I guess thats a big reason for it then.  I think my main problem with the interchangeables is the heel I could never find a heel I liked when my heel hit I would either stick or slide too much I was able to find a soul that I liked.  so is the slide sock really going to help?? Thanks for the advice guys.

As far as the coaching question, hve you checked on Bowl.com.  USBC Certified coaches are listed there.  Use the find feature to find a coach in your area.  They also provide contact information.  Contact him or her and ask a lot of questions, then schedule the session if it seems good to you.  Just a suggestion.
