Is it me or has some members of this board became extremely cocky?? Ever where I look I see someone saying "the guy scored well but sprayed the lane". I understand that people scored well with minimal accuracy. It is part of the game by todays standards. I think of myself as fairly accurate and I don't change balls to often unless I am really struggling. It just seems to me that numerous folks on here think of themselves as PBA caliber bowlers. If thats the case I hope I can watch you Sunday afternoon.

I agree 100% agroves.

You can always hit em hard when you've got the balls
Lefties are the only people in their right minds.

Saying that someone "scored well, but sprayed the lanes" does not necessarily mean that the person saying that is cocky. It is simply an observation of a bowlers accuracy and consistency, nothing more.

cocky=immaturity

It's far from cocky/arrogant to state that someone sprayed the lane and scored. It's an observation and most of us can recognize when we are doing it ourselves
But it's different for people like us leftside. With us being lefties thats all we ever do is spray the lanes, we dont have to aim, just ask the righties. lol

As Leftside accurately pointed out, it's a simple observation, like watching the moon rise and the sun set.

Wait a minute guys, you've got it all wrong!!!
When the other guy ISN'T PBA caliber and he beats me, he must be spraying the lanes...
But - when I bowl well, I "have area".

Seriously - a friend of mine got beat once by a notorious woman sprayer. It was for a major tournament, and my friend was upset with herself for losing. Her comment to me was "she had frickin' 9 boards of area. That's fine. BUT DID SHE HAVE TO USE EVERY ONE?"
I know exactly how she feels.

HEy All,
Not wanting to hijack a thread.. BUT ..
How do the Righties always absolutly know what the Lefties have ???
Every right hander I bowl with DOES !!! Yea, I'm a leftie..
I've been told repeatly how easy lefties have it.....what they don't see
is the practice (30 to 40 games aweek), the professional leassons and
coaching I've paid for.. ALL THEY SEE IS THE RESULTs !!!!
And they're Po.ed ???
Enough of a rant.
Thanks for letting me vent, drcjjr

I feel that people are to polite to begin with it is a competition say what you feel.If you play the lanes right you give yourself area to play and that is part of the game and part of being a good bowler.
My take on lefties is they get to master one aspect of the game that right handers dont.Consistancy, if you use the same game over and over you become excellent at that game.right handers on the other hand have to practice and use different methods of attack and can really never master any one game unless they do it for a living.I think thats why you here lefties sometime complain about being shut out and when you hear the right handers complain about the lefties its because they didn't put thier time in and practice or they just got out scored plain and simple.

bowl200--Hit 'em weak and watch 'em freak is cocky. Let me get up off the floor from my extreme laughter. If my signature was "better than you'll ever be" that would be cocky.
As for the comment about spraying, it is usually those getting beat who can't admit to their egos they got beat fair and square. I am not talking about Sawbones, Bob Hanson and other respectable folks on this site. I am talking about the mass influx of new cocky members in the past year. The ones who belittle another users ability and scores every chance they get. I lurk alot more now than I used to. I have read some very disrespectful and hateful things recently.
If someone shoots a 300, maybe it was a soft condition maybe it wasn't. Who knows?? We (bowlers) normally don't have much say in the pattern we bowl on. If we did we would have 40 guys screaming for something different.
My final question is this. Where has the sportsmanship gone?? Would you go up to a guy, lets say a stranger, who shot 300 and say "man you sprayed everywhere". If you want to show good sportsmanship you say "good game, keep it up". I have seen numerous 300's where someone has went brooklyn twice and carried it. So what, they optimized their score on the condition given, more power to them.

As a left-handed bowler, I respectfully disagree (at least as far as my game goes). Versatility is a key, especially on PBA Tour conditions. Lefties can't just throw it up 5 on every shot. My first PBA event ever I had to shoot third arrow with super soft speed and lots of hand; that's not the typical left-handed shot. Thank goodness I took the time in practice to play 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th arrow shots. I figured as long as I can be good at hitting those shots I would stand a pretty good chance when I went out on the regional tour.
So far my approach to the PBA tour has been right on. 2 tournaments, 2 checks. And I have yet to play outside of 7.

If horse racing is the sport of kings, then surely bowling is a very good sport as well.

Andrew---We used to be able to let a bowler know how we felt about his score after he learned the difference in two expressions. If we felt a bowler had shot a good game(hitting the pocket consistently but got tapped a time or two and only ended up with a 190) we would say "Nice game" If a bowler slopped a game with all sorts of lucky strikes(nose hits, Brooklyns etc) but shot 230, we would say "Nice score"
It didnt take long for them to know. In both instances, you are congratulating the bowler in such a manner that he cant really hit you in the mouth, but he knows the difference.

Bones
Bones,
I agree with you up to the point where you said, "It didnt take long for them to know". 99% still don't get the point.

"Just because you can do something does not mean you should do it."

That's funny Bones,
That's exactly what I taught the kids out here in the west coast, I moved from the midwest 17 yrs ago. Didn't realize some of us still say that...
Another note: Isn't the modern equipment supposed to give us that "spray" room anyway?? Our golf clubs are 10 times the size.....
