Cold lane beds and their affect on patterns?
« on: November 17, 2005, 04:14:07 AM »
Just something that I'm curious about again seeing as the snow finally started to fly here in Michigan.  I used to work at the main house that I bowl at so I don't get odd looks when I check things out in the back or look at the lanes after a really rotten night of bowling.

Last night after not having a good outing I went down the lanes to check things out a little.  In this house the approaches already felt 5-10 degrees cooler than the concourse area and the closer I got to the pinsetters the cooler it felt. Do realize that this probably wasn't the case away from the cement block wall that was only a pair of lanes away.

How does oil usually behave on synthetic lanes that aren't above room temperature?  I'm sure they are still using Brunswick's Control and it's being put on Pro-Anvilanes by a non-wick Kustodian.

Any input would be great.

Thanks for the response.  What you are saying really does seem to me what had happened.  3 games of bowling plus whatever open bowling occured during the day, but the backends were still flying for me.  Granted the Sonic X pearl I was using is drilled with the pin below my fingers and at about the leverage position, but I was still standing on the board I use for converting the 6-10 with my plastic ball.  Enough people were using sponges that the oil disappeared in the head and track and never carried down.

It was realy frustrating to bowl that poorly, yet have the other team not even shoot less than 600 a man , one almost 700.

Are they using the heated tanks for the oil?

These cheap skates?  Maybe when pigs fly.  They don't even have a room that could be heated for the machine.  The basic issue still remains that the lanes themselves are cold. These were also the 3rd to the last pair of 40 lanes, so the machine is pretty well warmed up by then.
