Cold Weather

Okay so I live in Chicago. Over the last few years I have had a problem with some of the newer coverstocks. Depending on how long they are left in a cold setting, they begin to lighten or turn white. I mean I even get a few balls that turn white or lighten during shipping. Why does this happen? Is there any way to prevent it? Is there any way to bring the color back once it's gone?

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but it's called "phasing".

Leaving them in a warm area for a couple days may bring the color back - it also may not. I've had this happen to a couple balls of mine. It has to do with moisture, or lack thereof in the coverstock (I think...).

One way to prevent it is to not leave your balls in the Chicago cold for extended periods of time.

No problem!

I'm not sure how you'd prevent phasing during shipping... It would depend what climates the balls are going through when shipped, the length of time the ball is in a UPS/FedEx facility waiting to get on the truck, the length of time it's on the truck waiting to be delivered, if it sits outside your house when it's delivered, etc.

If you ordered in the spring/summer/fall, where temps are pretty warm throughout the US, I'm guessing you'd have a better chance of balls not phasing on you when being shipped.

you should never expose modern bowling balls to extremes of temperature and/or humidity.........
