Title: Colored lane conditioner?
Post by: C-G ProShop-Carl on July 03, 2003, 08:24:24 PM
I cannot believe there are people actually calling for this. If you do that, yes it may be difficult to see where the change in units occur, but it is still taking away from the game. Part of bowling is finding where your ball works best, if you put coloring ing the oil that would make it far too easy. You would be able to see the carrydown, which is one of the more difficult obstacles to over come in bowling.

I am just saying, with many of the patterns out there now, and the equipment being so advanced the game is far easier than it was  a while back.

The only thing relative to that that is ok to do is when people are bowling the sport or PBA pattern leagues. The centers usually put a sheet out with what pattern is on each lane. I think that should be the extent of bowlers knowing what pattern is out there and where the oil sits.

How am I supposed to knock all 10 down with one ball?!?

I wouldn't want the colored lane conditioner in league or tourneys, but I think to have it as an option when practicing would help SO much in learning how to read lanes & breakpoints.

It may have a positive side in that you could see if the machine was working correctly.

after time the coloring would stain the lanes and you wouldn't be able to tell anyway so I see no point. Some oils glow under a black light though.

Can you imagine the people upset because the oil changed their ball color?

Not to mention the pins getting stained and changing color.  And you wouldnt want to wear a white shirt while bowling.  But you could have different colors for the different types of oil.  And maybe some would be scented.

And ball companies building balls that practically hook on their own isn't?

I know where you're coming from, but blocked or walled lanes take away from the game too.  Add the hook/carry in a box so nobody has to work and learn how to get the ball to roll and carry well, and I say why stop there?  Let there be colored oil!
