Welcome back when you get here. Some of the changes since you left. Gary Skidmore now owns Holiday Bowl and Leisure Bowl. Unfortunately there are very few scratch leagues and tournaments in the area.
10 pins and more have the tenth New Mexico Open in a couple of weeks with a guaranteed $10,000 first place prize with a $225.00 entry fee. The tournament has grown considerably in recent years and now have 180 entries so far. Ten pins has the only scratch tournaments that run on any kind of a schedule that I know of.
Holiday Bowl has a high/low pairing doubles scratch league that has a 9:30 PM start time and is a short season (24 to 27 weeks) with added money.
A few of the centers have added money to their prize funds, but I do not know for sure how many centers do that to attract the high average bowlers. Most of those leagues are handicap.
We do not have any successful sport shot leagues, but Holiday bowl does put out the USBC Open shots each year on weekends. Holiday also has a PBA/Sport shot league in the Summer, but they change to a different pattern every week and it is very difficult to figure out what equipment to bring. It would help tremendously if they could just use 3 or 4 patterns and use them for 3 weeks in a row.
Hope all of this helps. Once again welcome back to the Land of Entrapment.
