well i tried something new today
« on: August 30, 2006, 07:12:39 AM »
today my used orignal inferno showed up and i was gonna just have the thumb plugged or slugged. but the span was exactaly the same as mine, it has a little reverst in the middle finger but that was the only difference. i went with the entent to open the thumb up a size and a half, but then i remberd hearing cris barnes uses the tightest thumbhole on tour, so i thought maby i should try and see if i can do it(use next to no grip pressure) at first i didint like it. but after about 6 shots it was GREAT! im really seing how much i grabbed it on each shot before, i put like 2 pieces of tape in my action packed to get a similar feel and i was throwing it great. it really lets you know when you get excited and grab it a bit. this should also help with the high pressure situations that i tendto grab on, because i will already be thinking to use no pressure. i have a feeling that this will help my game out quite a bit, i get my thumb out earlier so i have a better tilt and noticably higer rev rate and with zero effort, unlike the little that i put forth before. has anyone else tried a smaller thumb hole? did you get good results like i did? the thing with mine is its really tight, like i have to push to get it in there, this should be 1 of many steps to get my game where i want it! im really excited to try it again

I tried out my old ball from a year ago when i started. I could put my thumb in, but it wouldnt come out. My right thumb is seriously out of shape due to about 10 skin rips from learning to bowl hook.

I had a Ebonite The Big One with a very snug thumb hole. I can see why chris barnes uses this style of grip for a few reasons. 1, can use a very relaxed grip on the ball with very little effort. 2, you come out of the ball a little earlier and smoother. Okay thats 4 things but yeah, can definately be benificial to some bowlers. I tried it and i loved it, eventually going to have all my balls changed over to the smaller thumb and thumb switch inserts. Same feel from ball to ball, cant beat that!
