Competitve leagues in Lansing/Grand Rapids Area???
« on: July 18, 2004, 08:33:00 AM »
I am moving to Michigan in the next couple of weeks and am looking to bowl in a competitive men's league(any type-handicap/scratch/sport).

Does anyone from these areas know of a good league to join???
Any info would be helpful
Thanks

Jeff, you are certainly correct in your assessment of Royal Scot.  I live in Lansing and Royal Scot does lay down sport shots all the time so I'm pretty sure they have a Sport Bowling League.  I'd have to say that if you were looking for a competitive league in the Lansing area check out Royal Scot, then Pro Bowl (formerly Pro BOwl West) and then Holiday Lanes.  Other alleys/centers in the area are Metro Bowl, Marvel Lanes, Charlotte Lanes and the super funnel that is Mason Lanes.

Welcome to Michigan!

Tuesday night at Pro Bowl is one of the two classic leagues in Lansing.  Lefty heaven and super walled up.  Huge scores galore.  This league is mixed with any combo but is primarily made up of men.

Wednesday night at Royal Scot is the other classic league.  Again, some pretty hefty scores.

There is not currently a sport league in Lansing, but I know a gentleman from that area who may be starting a sport league up.  If you are interested in that, please email me sport@michiganbowling.com and I will pass along your information to that person.

Royal Scot Lanes during the season was putting sport patterns out for practice on Tuesday and Thursday nights after leagues.  During the summer, you can almost always find some challenging shot put out on a few of the lanes there.  I think they have 60 lanes or so, so they can afford to do so.

I believe Char Lanes in Charlotte must have some decent men's leagues as well.  They have A LOT of leagues for a 24 lane center 15-20 minutes away from a major city (Lansing).

Airport Lanes in Jackson, about a half hour south of Lansing, currently holds a sport league on Tuesday nights.  I believe they had 8 5-man teams last season and are trying to get up to 10 this season.

Grand Rapids has a lot of bowlers, although not many competitive leagues.  From what I've seen out there they have a handful of really good bowlers and a lot of whiners and recreational bowlers.  There must be one or two decent leagues out there for a competitive bowler, but I am currently unaware of them.  I would recommend trying Spectrum Lanes, Fairlanes and AMF Comet Lanes.  I also hear that Cat Lanes in Ionia has some pretty good bowlers.  Ionia is half way between Lansing and Grand Rapids on M-21.
