Email received from Peter Hagin regarding the California "Anti-State" tournament. Look at the part that is bold and italicized.
Hello Everyone:
This is the 1st of 4 weekends of California’s Better Prize Fund Tournament – The Anti-State. The tournament is held at Diablo Valley Bowl in Concord. The entry fee is $30 per person per event with $17 going into the prize fund and the cash ratio is 1 in 6.
We’ll have 4 squads this weekend…Doubles & Singles at 9:30 AM & a team (4 Player) event at 1:30 PM on both Saturday & Sunday. We have room for walk-ins on all squads.
We have 3 divisions for higher average bowlers; an open scratch, a women’s scratch, and a 200 & OVER handicap division. There are also 2 other divisions; a women’s handicap and a 199 & lower handicap.
Unlike the state tournament, we allow bowlers to bowl in only the scratch division if they choose. If a bowler/team wants more than one division the cost is $20 extra, with $17 of that going into that division’s prize fund.
We have 2 rules in place to persuade the sandbaggers to avoid this tournament…If a bowler has won $1000 or more in a handicapped tournament, that bowler must enter at a MINIMUM of 200. Also, to qualify for handicap a bowler must have a 45 or more game average and we’ll use a bowler’s highest average for 18 games or more.
(I’m sure you’ve noticed that a good percentage of the dishonest bowlers only bowl 21 games to get an average, which in a lot of cases is below their true ability…And a lot of them will only bowl 18 games in a league and make sure they don’t get 21 games to qualify for a certified average….well, those bowlers won’t have an advantage that they are used to in other tournaments!!!!!)
