Okay guys, Last night I was bowling in a 9 pin no-tap no handicap sweeper. Went through the 15 minute practice feeling really good and just having a good ole time. Started the 1st game with the front 5 natural thats how well I was doing. 6th frame on were all open frames. I suddenly couldn't figure out why I was leaving multi pin spares, I wasn't that far off the pocket to yield some of the 3-4 pin spares I was leaving. Missing all the spares from that point on. I had an all new feeling come over me. I started to feel suffocated. Like people were talking behind my back and laughing at me. I know all the other bowlers and I have good standing with them all so them talking and laughing at me is highly unlikely. I only shot a 144, i wasn't pissed about it. I was just gonna use the next 3 games as practice for my timing and spare shooting along with trying different lines since the oil was a lot thicker then usual. (felt like a viper pattern) While waiting I started to get the over powering feeling that I don't belong where I was at and was starting to get pissed off at everyone to the point that I was about to snap at any given moment.

I came up with a quick no thought move to just pack it up and get the crap out of there before I ended up on the channel 5 10o'clock news. Usually when I'm pissed off of my bowling performance I will usually shuve stuff into my bag (not throw it in but place it into firmly), this was not how it went at all. I drove the 40 minutes home without the radio on.

I have thought about taking some time away from bowling cause I was getting fed up with it 2.5 months prior to the season end. So I took a 7 week break away from bowling all together never even looking at my equipment until friday june 19th. Usually I'm pretty competitive in this sweeper, this year I've finished 19th out of 24, 27th out of 31, and last night dead last since I pulled out of competition for good cause.

Im at a loss to why I felt like I did.

If I was couped up in a bowling alley this time of year I would want to kill myself too.  I think you need to take up golf.

Sounds like a classic anxiety attack.  Is everything else in your life going alright?

Had a friend who had problems he was hiding ( in the background because he didn't want others to know ) and he started having these same type things happening to him.  Got so bad he didn't even want to leave the house to go to work.

If these feelings continue, you MAY need to seek medical attention for them as they may be a pre-cursor to depression.

Well, there are things going on but its all stuff that is out of my control. I'm on unemployment, since June 1st. My moms brother passed away, uncle, and a another relative that we never talked to. I didn't talk to any of them, so thats not effecting me. My best friend just had a Cousin who was killed in chicago (wrong place and time), his dog passed away last wednesday, and his father passed away thursday. While Im sad for him about his dad, I've never talked with my friends dad. I just found out his name today in the obituary. Neither of my parents work, my ma is too lazy to get off her ash to look for a job and my dad has been trying to get a job the last 10 months. Only my dad is getting unemployment. The relationship between me and my g/f is doing well. I've been helping her parents as much as I can with their house that was recently flooded out from a water main break back in January. There starting to get back to normalcy over there finally.

So theres really not a whole lot thats effecting me directly. My vehicle is running good, has some body rust but thats fixable and i have plans to fix it.

Thats it.

Having feelings about being "out of control" are exactly the ones that can trigger things like this. And it sounds like you do have a lot on your mind.

If you contine to have these "episodes", I would look to get some help with them, either through a doctor or a counselor.  Sounds like your personal life is starting to try to bleed over into your recreational time as well, and when you can't escape your problems even there, its time for help.

As someone who's suffered depression in the past, I cannot stress how important it is to get help.  Dont go questioning yourself if you need it or not, get it before it starts to ruin your life.

While I understand your concerns of depression and seeking help of some sort I dont feel there is a need of medical help. I'm the kind of guy who loves to joke around and have a great time. Friday nights "depression" was due to my friends father passing away just the night before. When my friend wasn't there at the lanes it hit me harder then I ever thought it would have. I'm 100% sure that was the whole problem. When he wasn't there, I knew it was real and I just couldn't handle it. I don't know if any of you have a close friend that when they hurt, you hurt as well. Some of you might know what I'm talking about. If not then you don't have a best friend.

As for the rest of the stuff I'm dealing with is just everyday crap that I've been dealing with since June 1st. That's nothing I get too concerned about.

I appreciate the responses. If I end up having another crash like I did last Friday then I'll look into help.

Wow, what an informative and supportive post.  Maybe you should look into spending more time "in a bowling alley this time of year."

BrunsMike, try not to let it get to you man.  You probably did the right thing by taking a break from bowling.  If when you pick your ball back up you begin to feel like you did right before the break you may want to talk this over with your family doctor.  You'll be fine though and be back tearing the lanes up in no time.

I was gonna respond to you Friday night but I didn't want to be rude. Well screw all that.

I enjoy bowling quite a bit. I don't have things planned on Friday nights and I do my golfing on other days. I have not been able to golf because golf is expensive for a round of 9 holes. $22 with cart. I dont have that kind of money unless you'd like to send me $50/wk to cover the twice a week golf rounds I used to do until I lost my job. Bowling is only $16 a week which covers side pots and I have a chance to win back my money and then some. I never said anything about killing myself, maybe you should think about doing that yourself. If you dont want to respect me, then dont expect any respect back from me. I dont always want to be outside during the summer as its sometimes just too hot/humid at times.

If you have nothing supportive to say to me or anyone else then dont even respond. Its better off to say nothing then to look like some punk ash with big words from behind a keyboard.

I hate keyboard comandos!!

Everyone thinks they are handling it when it comes to LIFE and that its not effecting your bowling or your golfing or whatever.  But it is.  That's just a plain fact.  And at this point you maynot believe it, may fight against beliving it.  But all the c rap going on right now, is effecting how you deal with day to day stuff and bowling.  You will enjoy bowling again, maybe just not now.

I know because it happened to me too and I've seen it happen to good friends as well.  And they faught like the devil in denial that it was effecting something like bowling.

Mike,
Are you still bowling in Kenosha?

You probably need to get a 6th man on your team.

When things come up outside of bowling, bowling can take
second place.

You can choose to not bowl, or bowl.

That was a lot of bad stuff going on in your life at the same time.

Take some time off...

Burn out man. Take some time away from the lanes until you get that desire back.

Mike,
I use bowling as an outlet away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life. I can feel for you, we recently had a suicide in the family (my sisters husband), the uncertainty of unemployment, and some sickness also in the family. I took a break from bowling this summer to also get away from certain bowlers that were total idiots toward the end of last season, but I guess I have no control over that. The only thing that I can suggest is look for other stress relief outlets, I recently started playing guitar again, more music listening and reading, and other hobbies. Life is a big crap sandwich, which we are forced to take more of a bite of it everyday ! We just need to divert some of this stuff. Hang in there !

Well, I can add another stroke of bad luck on top of everything else. This might actually be a positive thing for me. Yesterday morning I threw my back out pretty seriously. I couldnt sleep at all last night. After I laid down in bed I wanted to get back up, took me almost an hour to get back out. Felt like a crippled guy (no disrespect just a figure of speech). The way it's looking, im gonna be out for several weeks in both golf and bowling. This will be the 3rd injury alone for golf. Same kind of muscle pain as my side when I over rotated in my golf swing just in the middle lower back instead of the right side.
