619 on Sport
« on: October 06, 2004, 11:43:42 PM »
Just wanted to strut a little.  Don't mind me.

After starting with 460 and 512, 619 felt pretty good.

Thanks a ton to Ron "Magic Carpet" C.  The tips you gave me for sport condition helped immensely.

Good shooting on a tough condition.  Do you find it to be more challenging mentally or physically?

The league is scratch singles.  I bowl 3 different people per night switching lanes each game.  It is both physically and mentally tough.  Physically you have to be accurate to within a board on either side of your target.  Speed, hand, and breakpoints are all factors.  Your physical game has got to be sharp.  Your mental game has to be peak also.  I learned last night that I am not as mentally tough as I need to be.  Needing a strike to beat my opponent, I pinched the ball a little and left a 4 pin.  A spare and strike on the fill ball would have tied.  I completely flagged the 4, making the fill ball irrelevant.  Bad mental defeat.

Incidentally, points are earned by defeating your opponent and bonus points are awarded based on your position each night.  There are only 8 bowlers on this league.  Last night my series was the high for the night, earning me 8 bonus points plus 2 points for defeating the opposition.  I had earned only 3 points total in weeks 1 and 2.  A 10 point night will definitely change my standing.

Sounds like an interesting singles league with the bonus points added.

I asked that question because most people would only think of it as a physical challenge, forgetting that it is a mental challenge as well.

Good shooting Pin-nut. I have a teammate on my Monday night league that bowls a sport shot league on Wednesday nights and he started his league with a 659 scratch. Since then though his average dove 25 pins in the following two weeks. I wish I could find a sport shot league during first shift- as I work at 11pm and can't make it to a league after 9pm and hope to make it to work on time...
