Used to happen all the time a few years back.

I believe they changed the rule maybe 5 years ago or so, that no scores get turned down because of an illegal shot, but the center gets either fined or in trouble etc....

They penalize the center , and not the bowler.

Not really to the point, but this post reminded me of a 298 game that I shot in a tournament in 1985 that got thrown out.  The center hosting the tournament was in a local association that was strict about lane conditions to the point where just about every honor score was getting rejected.  So in an attempt to keep this from happening during this event, the tournament directors had an association official verify the legality of the lane condition in the morning, right after they oiled.  This was back when they only ran the lanes once over the course of the day.  I didn't bowl until 9:00 PM, so you can imagine what the middles were like.  They were so torched that a few of us just started throwing the ball as hard as we could right at the headpin.  In the second game, I put together 11 of the ugliest strikes you could imagine before leaving a 6-10 through the face.  Of course, this was the highest game on the squad by a rather large margin.  I thought sure I'd be able to get a ring out of it, but after inspecting the lanes, the local association representative rejected the score...because there was too much oil on the outside of the lane and not enough in the middle.  Go figure...

Yep, as DrBob806 pointed out, Glenn Allison had the "ultimate" honor score rejection, when he shot 900 in a 3 game block, and the honor score was disallowed because of the lane condition.  By the way, that same very lane condition that was thrown out on Glenn's 900 would have been considered "legal" by today's oiling standards.  Glenn even went as far as to pursue the ruling through the court system, but the ABC rejection of the honor score prevailed.  Bummer.

Yes.  Sonnenfeld did cross pairs.  But, it was either games 1-3 or 4-6.  You can cross pairs all you want and still have a honor score count.  I did that in a SASBA Tournament last year in Memphis where I shot 300 and 806.  It was games 4-6 of a 9 game block.  However, I did have a 816 a few years ago that was denied by ABC, because it was games 2-4 of a 4 game block instead of 1-3.  Honor scores still get denied, just not as much as they used to.

I agree with you Mumzie.  I was just saying that for 3 consecutive games, I shot an 800, but was not considered an honor score by ABC.  I do not use it in my own stats when someone asks me how many I have.  That would be like me saying that I have a few in practice.  But, it still does not count.  It kind of sucked at the time, because that 800 would have been my first one.  It was games 2,3, and 4 of a 4 game doubles league.  But, I do agree with you.
