Consistency
« on: February 04, 2005, 02:51:20 AM »
Last night I had one of those head-scratching nights....first and third game are under par...170s range....then I bust out with a 230 something in the second game!!??

Tell me...why does this happen?  Is consistency really just a matter of consentrating on where the he11 I'm throwing the ball,...or is it more complicated than that?  One would think that games 1 and 3 I was trying too hard or something, ....but...I'd push wide one....tug another....game 2 I was just able to string a bunch and was basically on-target the whole game...

Sooooooo frustrated !

ON EDIT: What do you do to ensure you hit your mark, or, when you're tugging or pushing the ball, what can you do to get back "online".   Try to leave lane conditions out of this thread, ...this is an accuracy question

Thoughts ?

Usually for me accuracy or the lack of it is related to muscling.  If I am trying to increase ball speed and I start to do it with my arm, my accuracy suffers with a lot of pulled shots.  If I start to try to get too much lift and I do it with my arm or start to squeeze the ball, accuracy is affected again.

So for me, I have to ensure that I have a relaxed armswing.

Were you ending up in your normal spot each time?  An erratic drift could cause you to push or pull the ball trying to hit your target.

Jeff,
After last weeks post...I proclaimed myself Captain Inconsistancy. (check my post on Captain Inconsistancy.) That said, you have come to the right place. One of my coaches recently pointed something out to me. Not sure if this is your problem, but I'll share anyways. My coach told me I'm incredibly smooth when coming to the line. He did however point out that often when I struggle, my feet get way ahead of me. I've found that when I move up to the line and slow myself down that I am much more effective at hitting my mark. I too have been prone to tugging or pulling the ball. Not sure if this is your problem or not, but it seems to work for me.
