Not the Norm
« on: September 22, 2010, 11:15:01 AM »
I took over as league secretary two years ago, this is my 3rd season. The league had 6 teams of 3 bowlers holding steady when I took over. last year thru restructuring prize fund and advertisement I increased 2 teams. This year we started with 11 teams, and possibly have the 12 coming on the 4th week of the season.

In 2 years I have almost doubled the league. I paid out more cash for 1st place, gave a bowling ball to high average and most improved bowler. I advertised the crap out of this. I think non advertisement from the league is a lot of the reason for leagues not being full.

This year I want to try and pay out $1K for 1st place, but some of the higher average bowlers are whining about it. I am going to do several versions of a prize fund and let the league as a whole vote on it, if this trend of giving more to people that get lucky once a year keeps up I will not be doing this again. I put too much work into the league to grow it into a COMPETITIVE handicap league to do this.... my formula was working, now I have the guy that won the most cash last year bawling about it.... whats wrong with this guy.... lol.

I even pay out all places at least $125-$150 to each team to split.

Would you bowl on this league? $12 a week for a chance to split a grand, basically you bowl for free for 30 weeks.... if you win.
