Anyone from California? If so, Where From?!
« on: January 04, 2005, 06:02:27 AM »
Hi everyone, just wanted to take a roll call of anybody here from California.

If so, where are you from and where do you bowl?
Do you bowl tournaments?
How many leagues do you bowl in?
Are there Sport Condition leagues in your area?
Are there Pot Games/Action in your town/area?
Where do you get your equipment from?

Would love to see how many of us here are from California. If you are, chime in!

Happy New Year Everyone

Hi there.  I live in Southern California.

As for your questions:
- If so, where are you from and where do you bowl?
From Anaheim; Bowl league at La Habra 300 in La Habra and Premiere Lanes in Santa Fe Springs; Practice anywhere that it is <= $1.50/game.
- Do you bowl tournaments?
I occasionally bowl the Roll'n Donkee.
- How many leagues do you bowl in?
2
- Are there Sport Condition leagues in your area?
Not that I am aware of.  But I am going to look for one for Summer '05.
- Are there Pot Games/Action in your town/area?
Again, not that I am aware of except for the one time that three guys and me went three games for $10/game about a month ago after my Friday league.
- Where do you get your equipment from?
Until June 2004 I got it from Tom Underwood at Java Lanes.  Then, they tore it down to build condos.  Now, I get it from Tom in his new location: Eagle Lanes in San Marcos.

-equipment online, alex romanowski as my shop guy..but he's done now(moving to medford)

I am in Southern California - Huntington Beach.

If so, where are you from and where do you bowl?
I currently bowl league at Valley View Lanes. I usually do my practicing at Brunswick Orange Bowl on Sunday mornings when it's a buck a game.
Do you bowl tournaments?
No. I bowled a few scratch tournaments about 15-16 years ago but since then I just bowl league and practice. I bowled my first state tournament in 2003 and I might bowl my first county tournament this year.
How many leagues do you bowl in?
Just one league on Thursday nights. I rarely bowl more than one league at a time.
Are there Sport Condition leagues in your area?
I've only seen them in the summer at nearby Fountain Bowl (home of the recent Storm Open and previously the US Open). I might bowl that league this coming summer if I can convince my buddies to bowl.
Are there Pot Games/Action in your town/area?
Probably, but I never bowl pot games.
Where do you get your equipment from?
Like ClutchClay above, I always went to Tom Underwood at Java Lanes until they tore it down. I have yet to visit his new location in San Marcos, although I plan to go there within a few weeks. In the meantime I have had John Ray at Westminster Lanes work on my equipment as needed.

Pleased to meet you fellow Californians! Are any of you fans of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim??

Well, I live in Anaheim so, yes, I am a fan...but...don't get me started on that STUPID A$$ name change.  How can you be from Los Angeles and "of Anaheim" at the same time?  Answer - YOU CAN'T!  JEEZ!  The two places are even in different counties!

I'm a youth-er.

I live in Hayward (nor-cal). Some bowlers claim homage to some bowling center, but it is difficult for me to do. I bowl leagues at Palo Alto Bowl and at Serra Bowl in Daly City. The league at Serra Bowl scratch league goes every other week alternating from house shot to "challenge shot" (They pretty much play the same area as the house shot... just a little tighter up front... causing some carrydown later on... the part that makes it difficult). I get my stuff at BowlingZone in Palo Alto Bowl.

"I'm not supposed to do pot games", either.

Yeah.

I live in Ventura.. about 30 min. away from Magic Mountain.
~I bowl at Buena Lanes predominantly, but also at Wagon Wheel Bowl and Harley's Simi Bowl.
~Yes I do.. JAT, JST, JBT.. you name it, I've probably bowled it. Oh yeah, forgot to mention I'm a junior.
~Right now I bowl in one house league at Buena and the Greater L.A. Jr. All Stars travelling league.
~Yes, but only over summer. Sometimes I can get Buena to lay a Sport pattern down for me, but only for practice.
~As far as I know, pot games aren't that big in the Ventura area. I'm a junior anyways, not supposed to know about that stuff!
~I currently get my equipment from The Bowler's Alley inside Buena, but I used to get my stuff from Mike's Pro Shop inside Wagon Wheel. Soon I'll be getting some equipment from Team USA .

-I live in Southern Cali...city called Moreno Valley, near Riverside.
-Im like French, and I am youth and bowl JSTs, JBTs, and sometimes JATs.
-I only bowl in 1 league right now. I consider "my house" Moreno Valley Bowl. I have bowled there my entire life, and usually bowl league there, but this season I am not because I am bowling at New Yorba Linda Bowl, who puts out a sport-like shot.
- I do not know of any sport condition leagues in my area, except what I bowl, and I know Fountain does (1 hour away), and many different centers in the LA and OC area.
- The only pot games I know of that go on are at Moreno Valley Bowl on Saturday nights after the biggest league. (I know because a lot of my friends bowl them, and my dad use to when they were much bigger and had like 4-5 pairs going on! Haha!).
- I get my stuff from my best bud, Joel Ricketts at Pins & Needles Pro Shop in Hemet.

Oh yee, the LA Angels of Anaheim has to be the dumbest idea I have ever heard.....good thing Ive never liked them.
