How to fix a chip

The ring finger insert on my bowling ball is surrounded by plug material.  A piece of the plug material chunked out in the middle between the right edge of the lift and where the plug material ends on the right.

I want to prevent it from chipping or cracking any further.  Is there something I can use to fill the chip in myself or do I need to bring it to the pro shop?
It's an old ball so I'm not concerned about appearance.  

I would appreciate some advice.

When chipping occurs near the fingers, we usually plug the whole area
around it, else it will keep on spreading. Best to take it to the pro
shop, they will fix it. If not taken care off, might spread and crack
througout the ball.

I would take it back to the pro shop that did the original plug work.  He should not charge you to fix it if the plug work was done within the last 3 months or so.

It's an old ball.  Can the area be filled without removing the finger insert or do I need to have the whole finger plugged and then redrilled?

There is a way to repair it without having to completely re-drill the finger holes, but if the ball is an old one I'd have your shop re-do the area around the cracking. Older balls can be brittle and crack quite easily.

After they re-drill the finger holes, make sure that they have a SMALL amount of bevel at the top. This usually makes them hold up longer. Good luck.
