I recently got rid of my ball spinner because it was not convenient when it came time to clean up the tub I had it in and felt that at times my bowling ball were becoming too shiny due to it only being one speed. Don''''t get me wrong it was great having a spinner but I want the best surface possible and think a spinner FOR ME was not the answer.
I saw the polish your ball website a long time ago and thought it was an ok idea but a little "ghetto".
Then I got to thinking well when a ball comes from the factory the sanding lines arent criss crossed they are in circles and my balls never "looked" like oob, always too dull or too shiny and it showed on the lanes in performance. (I''''m very picky and meticulous when it comes to my hobbies) Then I thought this might be the product im looking for as the sanding lines would be in circles and I could vary the speed for sanding as well as polishing. I couldnt for the life of me before achieve a "light polish" as before you knew it the ball was hot and shiny rather quickly.
the review:
I purchased "mikes complete extended BMS special" and ordered clean n dull in place of the ball cleaner and they said they didnt normally do that but did for me anyway (thats a plus). I ordered 500 thru 4000 so I could do factory finishes on my hammer equipment. The ball bearing ball cup is a pretty good idea and works quite well. The BMS, while being expensive in my opinion, comes with velcro pads on the inside to stick your abralon to and fits into any standard 3/8" drill. I quickly found it very difficult to use with a powerful corded drill and it even skipped around on the ball if I didnt apply pressure. NOT GOOD but it did do a phenomenal job! I had my ball resurfaced twice by my pro shop but they used scotchbrite green then gold then 4000 abralon and the ball (blue vibe) was hook setting.
I got the idea of using my cordless panasonic 18volt and using the slow speed. BINGO! exactly what I wanted. It sanded slow and spun the ball all by its self (i like to use my left hand to slow the spin so I dont miss spots). after the ball was done it reacted EXACTLY like when it was brand new. a bonus is that with the slow speed my pads should last longer too.
In my experience this is the first and only product that I have used that I can honestly say can repeat an OOB surface EXACTLY. (a haus machine too but yeah I don''''t own a haus machine LOL! )
pros:
surfaces to perfection
ball spins in cup
high quality
very easily vary amount of shine while polishing
cheaper then a spinner!
so small I can keep my entire sanding equipment in a small box!
cons:
sanding can be tiring since you are holding a drill
feels ghetto but only at first
pricey for what it is
can''''t use standard wet/dry sand paper
if you like a certain type of rag for polishing you are stuck with the bonnets but they seem to work well.
You cant soak the abralon pads for it will just fling the wet resin all over you and the walls around you but this is ok as all you need is one spray of water since you should be sanding on slow speed.
Overall I am very satisfied with the product and will recommend it knowing it is a product that works very well.
*** I''''m sure a 2 speed spinner is good option as well but thats even more money and most people dont even own a spinner let alone a 2 speed one.***
