Eagle Restoration Project
« on: January 13, 2013, 02:20:13 PM »
Last week, my black eagle received a pretty bad chuck out of the thumb and a big crack heading towards the fingers:

The next morning, the crack had migrated another inch and a half towards the fingers.  After some encouragement that it could be saved (thanks all), I set out on the restoration project.  Started by drilling out all of the "cracked" material and old plug material around the thumb and then drilled small holes along the length of the crack:

Plugged everything up, let set for a couple days, and cut down/sanded.  I've been struggling with my plug material to get good/smooth sets when cut down (or maybe the clutter blade is getting dull?):

Then redrilled with a little different layout in order to stay away (as much as possible) from the plugged areas:

We will see how long it holds up...  Hopefully it will last for the rest of the season :-).

Just in case, I drilled up a new Slant Pearl:
