Plastic ball on dry lanes
« on: April 18, 2004, 07:18:12 AM »
I currently have a 14 lb hammer blade reactive pearl ball. When I play on light to medium oil conditions the blade works very well for me. However one alley I play at tends to have extremely dry lanes. On these lanes the ball hooks too much. I have tried to adjust my lane position and have not had much luck. I was wondering if a Columbia White Dot or maybe some other plastic ball might be an effective hook ball for these lane conditions. Thanks for any advice.

I suggest looking into a Lane #1 XXL or XXXL.
Both seem to work very well on toast. Deciding which 1 also depends on how much hand you have too. Other posters will be able to help you more than me though.

Go plastic.  You'd be amazed how hard they hit too.  Lol, they retain energy like you wouldn't believe.  Go with the XXXL.

I looked into the xxxl and it is a little pricey for me (I only paid $90 for the hammer blade)  Will the white dot do the job?  Also, are there any different drilling layouts I should look into for the plastic ball?  Thanks for the information.

Having thrown a pure plastic ball, and the XXXL, and not having a profile from you to read, unless you have an extreme amount of hand, I would highly recommend the XXXL. Yes, it's expensive for a plastic ball, but worth it, if carry and energy retention have any value on dry lanes.

I was definitely not a believer, until I had a chance to throw one. Now - I wouldn't use the XXXL for right side spares on most conditions - I have my maxim for that. But it stays in the truck for the true toast condtitions.

NOTE: You will not get the great big hook and finish out of the XXXL. But it will hook, it will finish, and it will HIT. Did I say HIT? Oh - I meant to say HIT!!!

Polished 3 piece urethane.  I have the XXXL but it flares a ton and can be hard to control.

I have just recently started hook bowling and I'm not sure what you mean by hand.  Could someone please explain.

Just for info I throw about 15-16 mph.  From what I've read on the internet about the different releases, I would consider myself a stroker.  Not too sure about the number of revs though.  Thank you for all the help.

Sorry for all the inexperienced questions.  But could someone explain the difference between a stroker and a tweener.  I'm not really clear on this.
