I have been having trouble at league when the lanes dry up. So I found some car polish (3M - Perfect It! FOAM POLISHING PAD GLAZE, SWIRL MARK REMOVER), dug my WICKED (haven't used it in years), polished it, and I think I might have solved my problem. I got the extra length I needed and the ball still had plenty of punch at the pins.

I was getting ready to purchase a LOUD NOIZE but this just might be the ticket.

Don't give up on those old bowling balls.
