Cream of The Crop
« on: June 15, 2008, 01:33:21 PM »
For anyone who went...just wanted to know who placed where. Wanted to come down and watch...but coming from Daytona Beach area and the cost of gas....enough said. I don't know when they will update the website with winners.

I bowled this weekend....well...threw the ball down the lane  Had the pleasure of crossing with Shawn Naumann (bhsbigcountry) in men's doubles.  We had a good time, and Shawn throws a great ball.  Chris Collins and Mike Roberts won men's doubles.  During singles had the pleasure of meeting alakazam and his wife.  Very nice folks that were enjoying the tournament from the seated area (where I should have stayed for singles).  Singles was won by John Bembaron.  He beat Tony Campagna in the final, others in match play were:

Stan Garner
Dan Smith
Brad Angelo
Chris Johnson
Rudy Kasimakis
Trisha Reid
Shannon O'Keefe
Mike Fagan
David Boyd
Lisa Wagner
Doug Becker
Rick Miller
Rich Garner
Mike Wolfe

I am forgetting a few folks....to be honest our whole crew found the bar long before match play started...and spent way too much time (and money) in there.

In mixed doubles Brad Angelo and Corrine Hamm beat Dave Guindon and Shannon O'Keefe in the final.  The fun side note is that Shawn and his partner Stephanie Nation edged out me and my partner Lisa Wagner for the last cash spot by 6 pins (they shot +327).  It was a blast as we were two pairs left of them and knew we were close going to the 10th frame.

It was a lot of fun this weekend.....I didn't get the chance to meet George Palumbo during doubles.  I know he shot 300 early in the first block, so congrats are definitely deserved to him for that.

I had a great time bowling my first cream of the crop. Friday wasnt so fun I had some problems with my wrist and forearm which hindered what I could do to help me score but still threw it good off my hand.
Stef and I bowled great to cash just over Russell .

Met Russell who also throws a great ball as well as being a nice guy to hang with. I got to met quite a few more people from bowling on friday then on sunday.

All and all it went well made my money back and had some fun. I will def. be back.

Thanks for the update. I knew Mike Roberts from my time in Ft Lauderdale and he drilled up quite a bit of my equipment, even before he had his own shop. Also knew John from the same time, good to see him win again.

If you could describe the "what, where and how" of "Cream of the Crop" to me, and, I suspect, to others, maybe we can appreciate what you folks are talking about ....

Thanks.

Sorry in the south it's a pretty widely known tournament....guess we assume everyone knows.

The Cream has been going for over 20 years (22 I think).  It has three days of bowling.  First day is men's and women's doubles, second day is open singles, and the third is mixed doubles.  Format is pretty straightforward with 10 games of qualifying each day, two 5 game blocks.  There is a stepladder final in the doubles, and in singles there is single game match play.

Lots of bracket action, and it is open to everyone.  It has one of the strongest fields year in and year out.  This year there were about 60 teams in men's doubles, 20 in women's, 110 entries in open singles, and about 40 in mixed doubles.

This year the field included..

Mike Wolfe
Mike Fagan
Brad Angelo
Patrick Allen
Rhino Page
Shannon O'Keefe
Rudy Kasimakis
Jason Sterner
Terrence Reeves
Ronnie Russell
Chris Collins
Chris Johnson
Jason Hurd
Lisa Wagner
Bill Oneal
Jason Couch
Chris Loschetter

I am forgetting a few...but it is also stocked full of great amateurs as well.  It's really a lot of fun...strongest field you can bowl against without going to a tour stop.

Thanks, Russell.

Is it held in one city or does it rotate over the years?

It's held in the same place every year charlest, Lane Glo Lanes in New Port Richey, Florida, that's on the west coast about 20 miles north of Clearwater for a  reference.  Here's a link to the flyer info, http://www.gobowlingshow.com/default2.asp?active_page_id=144

It was great meeting up with Russell and I can say this, the guy is too modest about his bowling, he throws it very well.  It was also good to see Tim Mack and Brenda out there mixing it up as well, the shoulder seems to be coming along slow but sure for him.

And since I'm answering for Russell, LOL, a couple more names that were there:

Stephanie Nation
Lucy Sandelin
Tim Mack
Eddie Vandaniker
Andres Gomez

Russell,

Thanks for the congrats on here. It was pretty nice to shoot 300 among that field of bowlers. That was a pretty tough field to bowl with

I wish Ronnie and I had scored better, but it never failed when I had a good game, he was kind of lost and vice versa. Bowling on Guardian is pretty demanding at times. That is never a fun surface to have to deal with.
