Critique my video
« on: July 24, 2004, 10:28:15 PM »
I said critique not criticize.
The file is kind of large (7.7M).
I know there are some things that aren't very good like:
My follow through goes to the left, my first 4 steps are very short,
and I come around the ball to early, but I am working on the follow through and staying behind the ball longer but not the footwork cause I tried very hard for a month to no avail.
These were taken over 4 games with 3 other bowlers so that is why the shot line is varied.

Can you move up slightly on the approach at your starting point to finish closer to the foul line?  That might help you get the ball through heads fried like Chinese rice in late tournament squads.

Nice, long slide

I think you said everything yourself that your doing wrong, no wyou just need to work on that. I think the 2 major things though are coming around the ball early and the loft.

The form looked real good and as the other two said, you know what you need to work on. You can really see you coming around the ball on that last shot. Its almost as if you release it from the side of the ball. Other than that, work on those things and you will be fine.

Stormin1:

Your approach is good. Don't chnage it. From watching on the back view, you come on the side and pitch the ball. Practice coming from the back like throwing a straight ball and LAY the ball down. Good example to watch is like Steve Jaros. Arm is dead straight and comes through the ball on the follow through. That's all i think you need to do and your game should be there.

Thanks to all for the comments.
Part of the reason for coming around the ball so much and the loft was the fact that the shot was a leftover from league and I was trying to get max
axis rotation to get the ball to skid more.
I shot some more video on a fresh shot where I was able to play my prefered
11-12 (arrows) to 7-6 (break point) line and while still more axis rotation than I want (40-50°) it was more along the line of 60-70° instead of the
75-80° in this video and the ball was setting down much softer about 8" past the foul line.
Also I took LuvThatWhiteDot's advice and moved up about 10" on the approach.

Im not sure if you have the wrist brace for a medical reason, or just because you like it, but it will be alot easier to stay behind the ball if you take that off. It keeps your wrist cupped so much that you automatically come around the ball. If you can adjust the brace, make it so its not so cupped.

It is adjustable, I had it set right in the middle and I use it due to tendon issues and I like it. With out it sometime when I roll the ball I get a pain that shoots down my arm that feels just like when you hit your funny bone.
I was told that is due to a tendon rubbing up against the Ulnar(?) nerve.
This is the same tendon that pitchers have problems with and I was a pitcher all through little league and high school so that maybe a contributing factor.

Next time your out, try setting it to the lowest setting, so your wrist is straighter, it will help you not come around the ball as much, and be a lil more up the back.

The lowest setting actually puts your wrist in a broken position for spares.
I think the video exagerates the amount of cup because it really isn't that much. If I put a straight edge on my forearm the back of my hand is only 1/2" away from it at the knuckles. I will try it though.

I'm not one who should be giving hints, but just let me say that this is the best video that I have seen posted on BR.

How could it be a fit issue when the pain originates in the elbow where the tendon and nerve run next to each other?

The most obvious thing is the release.  You need to follow through straight up and down.  Kinda wierd to watch...

Also, you dont come out of the ball right.  You dont put any finger whatsoever into it, you twist it more than anyhting.
