Does anybody know if this is just a no-hooking spare ball or does it have weight block that one can actually use?  Just wondering

Surface is the first determining factor in hook potential. It is plastic, so it's not going to move much unless you have a heavy hand and/or some dry boards to bank it off of.

That said, yes, it does have a real core, so it will move a little more than, say, a White Dot or Maxim. It does flare (if drilled to do so).

The big difference is carry. There is not another plastic spare ball on the market (other than the Lane #1 XXXL) that will will match this ball for carry.

just a thought:

I don't like clear plastic balls... they tend to crack more early... That is my experience.
