pocket trip 7-10
« on: September 20, 2006, 09:59:38 AM »
what the hell, im experencing this alot from the balls i wouldnt expect. my black widow is a beast and throws pins like crazy, really crazy. and the thing is i have never left more 8 pins with any ball(lefty) but at the same time i have never had as many trip 7-10's with any other ball i would say easily 7x more with this than any other ball i own. what is goin on? it seems like atleast 1 time a game there is a stone 7-10 staring me down...granted every time so far there has been a supercharged messenger to dominate at least 1 of the pins, but i still dont like it. i mean it looks cool seeing pins fly from oppsite directions and hit them, but in leauge there is always a chance that one or both messengers might miss....is it just me, the angle i play, the ball it self, the lane prep.......is there a way to adjust out of it? it seems im lined up perfect and bam nice, nice, nice, nice, trip 7-10, nice???? it always messes with me and question what im doing and usually spare a few frames getting a different angle lined up. is there any advise from those who have the same problem?

Pocket 7-10's, or nearly 7-10's, are typically the result of too much entry angle and/or the ball finishing behind the headpin.  From the foul line, it looks dead flush.  From behind or above the pin deck, you would be able to see that the ball actually hits the headpin further back.  For a lefty, this means the headpin is driven more into the face of the 3-pin, which hits the inside of the 6-pin which goes in front of the 10-pin.  The ball deflects the 2-pin into the inside of the 4-pin causing the 4-pin to go out and around the 7-pin.  The ball otherwise takes the 5-8, kicking the 5 into the 9 (or taking out all three pins on its own).

In time where big hooks are seen as desirable and "go long and finish hard" is what so many bowlers ask for, you see more and more pocket 7-10's.  Make an adjustment that will help the ball finish sooner, not necessarily harders, and these will go away.

thanks for the informative post, i still dont understand why its only with this ball. its not what i would call angular to say the least. i try and limit my shot with it to me standing about 35-37 with my feet and throw it the spot where it gets back best, witch is about 5-10. and the thing is if it looks dead flush it happens, but also the shots that go just barely to high flush when i worry about 8 pins, its there too, and actually the 4th shot i threw with it was dead nuts perfection, cosmetically(sp) but BAM 7-8-10. wtf, but i should stop complaining untill there isint a violent messenger taking them out
