Cured my case of the tugs....
« on: May 10, 2009, 01:43:56 PM »
Fisrt off, sorry this is so long. Since I started bowling 2 years ago I have found that when I miss my mark 95% of the time it is a pull. I had always worked on timing and felt like if my timing is good I will hit my mark. Well I had worked so much on timing and not really ever got rid of the pull. SOmetimes I would pull it and not even feel as though my timing was that bad.

So...I fell on my left elbow playing roller hockey and strained the tendon and ligaments in my left arm somehow. This caused me to lose basically all the strength in my left arm. Since it was the end of the year and I didn't want to miss I decided to just bowl anyway.

I had always used my left hand to support the ball in my setup with my fingers at about 10 oclock straight out in front of me. With my left arm being messed up this was impossible. So the adjustment basically was putting my right hand directly under the ball and supporting all the weight with my right arm. This pushed my elbow in to my side a little more and moved the angle of my forearm to go more towards the right. Basically, my arm is now pointing directly at my target. With the pushaway being toward the target.

This has basically cured my tugs which i am now assuming was actually due to a poor path in the armswing not due to timing. Now when I do tug it, which is much less common, it is due timing which I can clearly feel the mistake in my feet or swing.

Just a lucky injury for my bowling game I guess, wish I would have hurt myself a long time ago, lol. I figured this may be useful to someone out there who struggles with tugging the ball, who is only looking at timing. I recommend you check the path of your armswing.
