Custom Thumb Oval Hole
« on: April 09, 2011, 07:58:48 AM »
I'm thinking about trying an oval thumb hole and was wondering what those of you who have tried and liked or disliked the oval thumb had to say, thanks in advance.

The best thing that happened to my fit was having a oval thumb drilled by Mo.My thumb looks like a lopsided cobra head from a callous on the back of the knuckle from a bad fit when I first started bowling. Is your thumb round or oval? Also have found that a lot of shops don't know how to measure and drill ovals

Mo actually comes into our house quite frequently and he would be the one measuring so I know that it would be correct. Thanks for reply , sounds like you are completly satisfied so that's good to hear.

There are not many round thumbs out there, so it makes perfect sense to have the shape of the thumb hole to match the shape of the thumb.

Rileybowler,

I drive to Richmond from Baltimore to meet with Mo.Paul Seay drills my stuff for me.I get out of the ball better than ever and don't have to use as much tape and no Magic Carpet.I'd recommend spending an hour or so on the lanes with Mo.Let him do a grip anlysis and recommend some layouts for your game.Probably be the best time and money you have ever spend on your game.

Only problem I see with some of my customers is that some do hang up with the oval. Reason for this is that during their normal release their thumb exits the ball a little late and their thumb actually turns a little in the thumb hole. With the oval thumb, their is really no room for you thumb to turn unless you make the hole much bigger.

Again, this has happened only for a few bowlers, others love the feel of the oval.

I don't know anyone with a round thumb ...

And once your thumbhole is correct, you need to learn how to stop 'grabbing' the ball ....that can be the only reaon you'll hang up on an oval thumb, ..unless of course, the oval thumbhole was done wrong ......
