Interesting piece on Belmonte, but I feel like they are really glorifying the two-handed release. For that Bolivian team, it's hard for me to believe those kids went from 120-140 averages to 190 when they changed over.

I agree they are over-promoting the two-handed style, but I do notice that I carry a lot more off shots with that release. I have the same revolutions and speed, so I don't know what other factors are at play.

.. Maybe it's my imagination?

Buddy,

It could be hand position which could be just enough to alter the entry angle and thus help create more carry.

I am sorry to say this.  but, i believe that bowling that way has made the sport become fun again.  I see so many people trying some form of the no thumb method that when they see pins flying and falling down, their faces light up.  That is what the sport is all about.  If you cant have fun, why bowl at all?

Agreed, it does seem like people are seeing this and having fun with it. Everyone already grabs the house ball and throw with just two fingers in it to brag to friends they can hook the ball.

It's not as easy as he makes it look, and being consistent with that style remains one of the things that people criticize. Then again, most people are just house bowlers, so with this, it's fun, and it works.

I did like how he explained his style. I never really realized how the second arm worked, I just believed it was there to hold the ball efficiently. With the second arm acting as the "thumb", I can see how he's consistent with it. When ever I play around with the style, I'm just flinging the ball and generating revs.

I had tried this a couple times in the past... without any success. Then this past weekend, I gave it another chance but I burried my findgers into the ball like a semi... and what a difference. Now I look at this video and noticed he is not using a finger tip but a semi or almost a conventional. I think I am onto something here. Maybe time for more practice.
