Gluing in grips ?
« on: December 04, 2015, 08:25:12 PM »
In my ring finger, I have a fair amount of away pitch.  When I insert a new grip, a good portion sticks above/outside the ball.

I've tried trimming with a sharp knife, but don't like the look or feel.

I've tried putting drops of glue inside and pushing the grips down, but this seems to stretch/change the size of the grip.

I've tried just leaving them hanging out, but after a few games it gets caught in the ball return and tears.

What's the best way to deal with grips like this in order to get them flush with the surface of the ball?

Here's a picture:

Thanks
Scott

Try taking the grip out and flipping so the side facing down is facing up. Reinsert the grip upside down. With a pen trace the portion of the grip sticking above the ball. Remove the grip and trim away the excess along the traced line. Flip the grip over and insert it normally. Now you should be able to push the grip flat and glue it down without changing the size of the grip.

Two things I do:
1. If I'm drilling the ball. I'll drill the fingers and extra 1/8th deeper to make the insert easier to press in when I glue it

2. Instead of cutting the top of the insert to get it flush. Trim the bottom that goes inside the ball. That way you're not changing the feel of the part u are using

Try to start gluing the insert on the bridge side, make it flush, then glue opposite side, make sure to press down the insert to make it flush. Then glue the front ,push up slightly, and last the back of the insert if you need to.
Practice makes perfect  :)

Holes seem to be drilled deep enough...I think its just the angle of the hole that's causing part of the grip to stick out... 7/16” away pitch in the ring finger!

I think this is the best way. I use the trip grips and the pitch in the ring finger usually causes this the same problem. Glue the bridge side flush makes it easier.
