Damaged ball---UPDATE!
« on: April 17, 2005, 12:39:22 PM »
If you have a ball that gets a HUGE chip out of it at a bowling alley, who should be responsible for the damage? I just had it happen to me last week, they said the ball appeared to have hit the rake, somehow. Funny thing was, it was on a full pocket strike. What do you guys think?

In my opinion the alley should be fully responsible for any lane damage.

depends on their policy. if they dont want to fix it they dont have to. however, if they dont, i'd suggest not giving them your buisness anymore. a lot of places have a sign as soon as you walk in that says "not responsible, etc etc".

If you know EXACTLY what happened, like that there was loose metal, or something behind the pindeck, then I would say, the bowling center SHOULD help you out. This is up to them though, because I know for a fact that if it were a smaller nick/scratch, 1.) They wouldn't give a crap. 2.)You wouldn't either.(not to the point of bringing it to thier attention) However, if you can't tell for sure exactly what happened, the center is not likely to help you out at all. I wish you luck though. That would piss me off SO bad if it happened to me! *pets my AI* Good luck!

Well, they have fixed it, but I have not been able to go get it yet. Earlier in the night I asked the guys to order me a storm xtra value kit of polishes IE 150$ worth of polish. Pardon me if this sounds bad, but if they want me to pay for more than the cost of the materials to fix my pulse, then they are gonna be sitting on some polish for a while. This may all be pre-mature as they did not act as tho they were blaming me when I turned the ball in to them.

Every place I have had a ball problem, like yours, they fixed the ball at no charge. One place, it did look like a "rush job" but it was drilled and pluged with as close a dye as they had, I guess, but never the less, they fixed it and it cost me nothing. You can't complain much for a free repair job. Yes, the ball rolls just fine, it just might have been a better job, but nothing I can't fix, now, myself.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly. I have not had the best of luck with this pro-shop in the past, I had decided to give him another chance with the polish thing. I hope he comes through with no trouble, I like the bowling center as a whole and the other guys who work there are great, I even helped a couple of them out with landscape work (I own a landscaping co.)..

I had 7 nicks taken out of a new ball (2nd time throwing it) one night.  A team mate was throwing a house ball and it was taking chunks out of that ball.  I showed it to the guy behind the counter and he said I could bring it in and the pro shop would take care of it.  I just wanted them to check the lane and see if something back there was causing the damage - they didn't seem too concerned.  It was a cheap ball so I wasn't too worried about it, but it was funny because just about everytime the ball came back from that lane it had another nick on it!

Happend to me yesterday, to my spare ball.
I showed it to the manager.
His reply was"which lane?" I answered 2 then he said dont use it anymore.
I thought he was going to sort out the ball. He went down the back and checked but found nothing. Again he said dont use it anymore.
After the comp had finished I asked he what he was going to do. His reply was nothing. Hed only wanted me not to use it so as not to damage his lanes. But he was taking no responsibility for it.
It was a chunk just away my track but it was still usable. I slipped from 2nd to 3rd on that last game.

Just spoke to the bowling alley guy, and he said that I don't owe him a thing!
Glad to see that they believe in doing the right thing.
