Dare you to POST answer!
« on: August 01, 2004, 12:57:42 AM »
A little challenge here for lurkers.
Don't mean to chase them away, just get them to join in!

I'm a newbie!

My questions to the Lurkers!

Dare you to answer just one QUESTION on the Board, not to me!

Do you feel reading helps you out or is it amusement only?

Who is your favorite poster in this area?

WHat is the most memorable post you ever read in this area??

Why don't you normally post or join in? Scared to get laughed at? Don't think your opinion would interest anyone else??? Too busy???? Can't spell???? You must be able to read, you're here. So what if your spelling is off.

No cheating you posters, don't get a new name and make believe you're a lurker!
And don't make fun of brave lurker's, please!!! Don't want to scare them off, just get more action going. Some of these lurkers have a lot of good stuff to share if we can get them out of lurk mode.

*not a lurker* I think the problem is that most lurkers are here to learn, and are intimidated by the techincal mumbo jumbo we talk about, and would feel weird posting a question they need an answer to that some people would find stupid.

*long time lurker, occasional poster* i post when i know i can provide something helpful if it hasn't already been stated. i have been on this site for i think 2 or 3 years and i don't know of many people that still post on a regular basis except for the hardcore group.

I make it a daily habit to check out what's being said. and now i check out the wanted and trades forum just to see what market value is for stuff.

I'm not a lurker either, but I have to go along with The Dude here.  Why post just to post?  If I feel I have nothing new to offer or lack the expertise to post on the topic, I simply read and learn/enjoy.  When I first joined, I read the posts, especially those in the old AG Forum.  When I felt comfortable, I began posting.  Some will never feel comfortable and remain lurkers and all is good.

That's my philosophy.  It seems to me that most of the posts I see on the site that are on a subject I might have something to say about are answered lightning quick by somebody else.  If what I would have to say has already been said by someone else, I usually stay out of it unless it appears that moral support for the position is called for.  Sometimes I just stay out of it because the post has degenerated into babble before I even see it and I don't feel like attempting to bring it back onto topic.  There are many posts that are ball discussions, and I don't have comparative insight to offer on every ball out there like so many people seem to have.

If I logon and see a fresh post on a topic I know something about, I'll reply to it.  I post less than I used to.  I mostly just look around to see what's being said.

Thanks guys for sharing,
I have noticed if I go off on a tangent, by the time I get done 4 or 5 posts went up.
Got to learn and make posts shorter or type faster.
