How many of you ....

loft your ball?  If so, about how far do you put it out on the lane?  Another question... Are you constantly affected by changing climate conditions?  Do you "cup" or maintain a "firm" wrist?

Where is your target?  near the arrows or at the dots/boards beyond the foul line?  How much do you drift in your approach?

Just a few "common" questions.

Constantly, no.  If the center is really warm, then I expect the oil to move around quite a bit.  If it is very cool, then I expect the shot to stand up longer.

Yes, firm wrist, working on not cupping any more.

Arrows.

Drift 4 left consistantly.

Groves, when you used a cup wrist, did you have any problems "hanging up" in the ball?

depends.  Normally none, but since I try and not bend my knee it starts about a foot or so in the air.  I try and let it just glide down to the lane.  On real dry I can (and will) go airborne to the arrows.

Only high humidity affects me.  High humidity = large thumb.

normally firm, but can cup if it's required (note: high oil volume does not, of necessity, require cupped wrist).

Varies.  The oilier it gets the closer to the foul line I target.  I've been known to target from about 5 feet past the line up to the reflection of the pins on the lane in front of the pin deck.

Hey Vernon,

Becareful when holding a cupped wrist position past your body/foul line.  If you have a fair amount of reverse pitch in the ball, the reverse actually can lock you in because it will take longer for your hand to rotate downward before the thumb angle will allow you to come out.  Reverse is meant for an earlier release but somewhere near the side of your body, not in front of it.  This may be part of what you're experiencing, feel free to pm me if you have questions, thanks.

Yes, I did at times.  It wasn't often, only when it was very warm.  My hand will swell some the warmer it gets.  So, my thumb hole gets tight, but not really enough to notice until I release the ball.

My style is very little kneebend, so in essence, I do loft the ball - but only from the standpoint of the trajectory of the swing. It probably lands 2-3 feet out on the lane, but with the trajectory of "landing" the ball, not down INTO the lane.

My hands constantly swell and shrink. I go from 5 pieces of tape to none.

Depends on the lane condition - but normal target is at the arrows. I'll move my eyes in on extreme oil, or out on extreme dry.

Rain gets our house crappy. Built in a swampy area. Doesn't flood but you notice it on the lanes.
Weird thing is, I tend to bowl my best them nights while others struggle.

You people answered in various ways, things I've watched my son do.

Is it really worth the effort to learn all the hand postions?

Me, I slow up if not curving, speed up if it's hooking, take a deeper knee bend, or loft and if those things don't work I move. Trying to remember one guys tip on moving front or back depending if you leave 7 or 10 all night. When he's there to remind me, it works for me.
