Dealing with flagrent foul language

I know many use colorful language and a there and here once in a while is ok, but:

I bowl on a team that has a member from another team coming over to us to visit with another one of my team members.  The guy can''t put two words together without one of the two words being fu..ing unless it is followed by sh..  The guy is about 6''2" and about 320.  He is loud and doesn''t care who hears him.

Because of my childhood, I don''t like to be around abusive or abusive sounding people.  Just the words and decibel bothers me to where I no longer enjoy bowling.  I retired from the Navy after 31 years so I''ve heard bad language before, but this is way too much.

I talked to my teammate and he ensures me that he has talked with his friend, but I guess to no avail.  I told my teammate again, I will not bowl under these circumstances and I also talked to the league secretary and told her my feelings about bowling under these circumstances.  I said if this continues, I will have to leave the league.

The guy doesn''t bowl on our team but after he throws his ball, he walks over to where we''re bowling and starts his onslaught of terrible language and negativity.

How would you handle this situation?

Oh this is easy.  I say you just give him hell for his bad bowling.  He obviously is bowling bad, as I've never seen anyone act like that when they are bowling well.  

What you would hope for is that he would act like a baboon elsewhere.  But then again, I'm such an A%^@#$!, I'd likely just follow him and continue the heckling.

Thank you for the replies.  I would understand a little profanity.  I'm not a saint. But when someone has to leave their set of lanes and walks over to another sette area with every other word being fu...ing loudly, i find it vulgar, abusive and un-necessary.  

Those of you who defend this behavior must have a better view of yourselves then the others around you. Language like this is not impressive, but i believe someone already said it, it makes up for a lak of education and/or the inability to express yourself.

Nicanor,

I agree with you, evidently there are some that feel that it makes them more of a man by swearing and cussing.  I am not a saint by no means but we threw a bowler off of our team 2 seasons ago for all of his loud swearing and poor behavior.

they did allow women in the Navy even before the 70's but thats not the point.  the subject was intended what i believed to be flagrent bad language. i'm sorry if i insulted somes manhood bystating that extensive use of colorful langauge just showed a lack of education and poor raising by parents and if I hit a nerve, sorry.  There is no need to inject a curse word between every other word in your sentence.  Obvisously some get lost while talking and have to use a curse word to enable them to think what word should be next in the sentance.  A little colorful langauge and this wouldn't be an issue, flagrent is the problem.

you know i used to be one of those guys that inserted a colorfull word between every other word but i've since became more mello and learned to realize that you son't need them and i agree with Nicanor
There is no need to inject a curse word between every other word in your sentence. Obvisously some get lost while talking and have to use a curse word to enable them to think what word should be next in the sentance. A little colorful langauge and this wouldn't be an issue, flagrent is the problem.
and i'll be the first to admit i'll let a D*mn slip or S*it once in a while but there mostly to my self any more

Talk to the proprietor, tell him you and other people are not happy with his actions. If it were me I would tell him he is hurting my business and if he keeps it up he can find another league to bowl in. Simple as that.

only league bowling and he is probably having a good time with friends and family and away from reality..  its not tournament or national or even reginal..  just chill and wear an ipod if you dont like the noise... good thing i'm not bowling your league or else you probably wanna kick me butt

The prolific use of foul language just shows a lack of imagination, intelligence, manners, and class.

I used to work for a man who got into the habit of using profanities a lot. I don't like that - for the above reasons. I talked with him one on one, and told him that if he saved the profanities for emphasis, people might listen to him. In other words - only swearing when there's something that REALLY requires it makes it have meaning. At work, it had the desired effect. Maybe that kind of approach would work for him?
