Defective wrist support? Recommendation?
« on: May 14, 2011, 02:08:25 AM »
I used a Robby's Rev 1 for about 3 years and over 1000 games. It broke so I got an exact replacement. The new one never feels right: had to grind it so the cupping adj tab could go down and lock; then I cannot get a clean release almost half of the time.

I do not have the old one to compare but I notice the new one would force my hand into a 90 deg. angle during release no matter how I adj it. Consequently sometimes my hand may be even somewhat on top of the ball.

I would like to try other models like the Moro Pro-Release or the Brunswick PowerKoil but my "main concern" is getting a consistant "clean" release. Thanks!

I've tried pretty much every one except for the Moro Pro-Release and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the Brunswick Powrkoil is by far the best. You can micro adjust it and it feels the least restrictive, yet most supportive of all of the supports I've tried. Its also very comfortable too, sometimes I can't tell whether I have it on or not. As I'm sure you might have done with your Robby's, use wrist liner which makes a world of difference in comfort.

I have tried many different support/positioners over the past 15 years since I had a major wrsit injury. My favorite is the Moro Extended Pro-Release. It makes it easy and quick to adjust, especially just a quick "flip" of the adjustment bar to easily allow "flattening" to "kill" a shot, as in shooting single pin spares. Also the availability of extra pads that do tend to wear out. I replace mine about every season and a half, bowling 2 - 3 leagues a week.

I've tried the Moro and the Powerkoil. I hated the Powerkoil and love the Moro.

I used the Moro Extended for several years until 3 years ago at which time for what ever reason I began using a Robby Revs II. Also have used a Striker some the past year. About 3 months ago I went back to a wrist device I used for several years in the 1990's and my bowling release is much better with it as well as my scoring is also up with it. It is not adjustable and really locks up your wrist and that works really great for me....It is a Robbys Gladiator. The steel backing in it is removable. I took mine out in the 1990's to bend it something like approx 10-15 degrees or so to give me a little bit of wrist cup and put it back in. Still that way today. here is what one looks like.

I've used a Robby's Revs II for about 5 years and like it, but if I ever have to replace it I think I'll try the Storm Gadget.  Several bowlers in our house have done well with it, and I like that it allows your wrist to bend forward, but not back beyond where you set it.  --  JohnP

Thanks a lot! I took a chance and twisted it so the 2 pieces are now almost level ( they were at an angle before) Now my release is much smoother and it seems like it's working like my old one. I'll still try something else but I have more time to decide........Thanks again!
