How does "Bowling This Month " come up with the hook rating?
« on: January 12, 2004, 04:40:30 PM »

Here's a question that's puzzling the he11 out of me: How does BTM come up with the hook rating? what really has me wondering is their recent reviews of the Track mid-line balls, the Threat, Thrash, and Triple Threat.  All three have a hook rating of 46. The Threat and Triple Threat share the same weight block, but even though the Triple Threat is compound, hooks earlier, and has more back end, the polished Threat has the same rating.  Ditto the Thrash, which is compound but with a different weight block.

I see a lot of comments here about "my <dull high load particle> hooks less than my <polished particle or resin> ball."  And according to BTM, that particle ball probably has a hook rating of 55, while the polished ball is a 48 rating. I'm trying to make some sense to this metric, otherwise is it becoming useless.

Comments please...Thanks!

Yeah, I considered that there might be copyright issues.  But, then I figured that my sheet would not really be seen on a broad scale.  Maybe there should be a sentence saying something akin to "You must be a BTM subscriber to view this spreadsheet".  Again, this is outside of my sphere of knowledge so I am just guessing here.

pjr300:
I just got my issue on Thu.  I should have it updated today and I'll post a note here when it is.

chun914:
I have just been going off of the information in the BTM review for coverstock information.  Unless I made mistakes during data entry, blame the incorrect information on BTM, not me.
If you tell me which ones you find to be wrong, then I will go back and double check the review data against my SS data.

Great spreadsheet!  Thanks!

2 Things:

The Uranium Buzzsaw is a Pearl, not a solid.  This
is straight from Lane 1.

Where did the Sport Shot ratings come from?  The BTM's
I've seen never mentioned them.

Thanks.

I got my Feb issue last night and that't the first issue I've seen the Sport Shot rating. New graphic layout throughout the magazine... looks like a totally different publication!

asaturno:

Yeah, like pjr said, they totally changed the layout and graphics in the mag.  The sport rating is new for this month.  As for the Uranium coverstock, I thought that is was pearl but the BTM review just says reactive for coverstock type and I have been going solely off of the review for all the data.  From what I have seen, they will put reactive/particle pearl when they think it is pearl but they may not be too good at classifying the coverstock properly.

I just noticed that, except for Feb 2004, the Sport
ratings are the same as the Dry.  So I'm not sure
how reliable they are.

Oops.  When I copied the Dry columns and inserted them into the sheet to create the Sport columns I forgot to clear the Dry data out.  I have updated my geocities copy and emailed the update to Tony.  Or you can just ignore any Sport ratings for all months except 02/2004.
