Detroit tuesday all-stars season on hold

saw an article today in the local paper that the tuesday nite all-stars
(highest form of comp. in the metro -detroit area)season is on hold, was suppose to start its 70th year tonite, pretty sad, is it a lack of interest
or the local economy causing bowlers to cut back?, i bowled 2 years in the traveling all-stars, what a blast, too bad the tuesday nite league is on the other side of town,they actually ran applications in the local paper to recruit
bowlers.
Our wednesday nite league even had trouble filling spots this season.

I remember when I lived in the Detroit area, those All-Star leagues were difficult to get into.  Did they mention why it was on hold?

Restructure,years back my buddies & i would go and watch the league,
as you mention hoping to get to sub at least once, never happened, they had always between 16 and 18 teams, the paper mentioned that they would operate with a minimum of 10 teams, which they had, but one pulled out last minute.
As i mentioned i got to bowl 2 seasons on the traveling all-stars, just would show up & wait for a team that was short a bowler,then my first nite subbing shot 700+, they then asked me to sign a contract thru the rest of the season.

part of the problem started when they
shut some team and people out

they didnt draw for lanes and some of the best bowler sin the city were on a team(part of a team that just won a abc eagle) could compete in the tuesday league, but won the thursday league for 4-5 straight years

they asked to draw for lanes that night, but were turned down.

seems there pair always had a slightly differnt shot-humm

thats what happens when you play the GAME

PLUS
no $$ in pots and huge scores to win

most want to go to a mid league to be the man and win more $$$$

plus its a drive for most east siders

and start time isnt greta either

That is a shame. I bowled in the Wednesday night Wonderland classic, another great league, which folded in 2003 after 45 seasons. A real shame. The crappy economy isn't helping matters, that's for sure.

I live in Windsor, across the border from Detroit and when I was asked to bowl in that league it was the greatest thrill.  I ended up having to give it up after a couple of years but I can't believe it has come to this point!  I certainly hope they can get it back to where it belongs.

Neither this article nor this post has really made it clear to me what happened to this league.  The article refers to the league needing a "savior."  That usually means somebody with money.  How would money save the league?  I'm not being facetious, I really don't understand what the problem is.  Did a bunch of teams drop out?  If so, why?  1fife said something that suggests that at least one team feels that their assigned lanes were being tampered with.  Is there some kind of evidence to suggest that lanes were being set up to complement one teams strengths over the other's?  How could a league like that fail to find enough bowlers in this market?  How is the Thursday travelling league doing?  It always seemed to me that the two leagues had mostly the same bowlers.  How can the Thursday be okay and the Tuesday league fail?  I understand that the Thursday league is sponsored by the Hamtramck Singles Classic, but I don't really know how having a league "sponsored" makes a difference.  I feel like there has to be more to this story than has been said so far.

Once again, I'm not being facetious.  These two leagues have always been the face of big time bowling around here, and the significance of such things as league sponsorship aren't clear to me.  There just HAVE to be enough elite bowlers around here to fill both leagues.


The Detroit Free Press article hints at politics; or grudges and snits.  Is this possible?  Does anyone know what's going on behind the scenes?

Shiv, I assume this is a big money league?  If so the "savior" probably would have to be someone to put up a bunch of added money.  From what I know most big money leagues have sponsor added money and that (if such there was) may have dried up.

I don't know if it's a big money league or not.  I slightly know two guys in it, but I rarely see them and I've never heard whether guys were in the league for the money.  I always assumed that it was mostly just for the competition with other top notch bowlers, but now that I think about it, I guess that sounds pretty naive.
